I've been listening to The Cure lately, and I was trying to capture their sound. This piece is an original composition and it's a work-in-progress, i.e. I've spent about 20 minutes on it so far, sketching out the various parts and recording them.

Personally, I don't think you could ever release anything like this, as it sounds a bit too close in style to my ears :)

    What do you guys think?

i don't know about the similarity but it sounds good
and what defines the cure is the singers voice. i think.

I'm a Cure fan(I mean the band lol )and I must say...you are very good and pretty close...
    I like it...
Dark..., little desperate but melodic and sentimental.
    All you need for Cure...

Yes, I would agree with that musical description

I wouldn't attempt the Cure pop stuff though, because his standard on those is too close to being perfect :)

    Fender Strat (2x parts)

    1. (bass) API compressor, <Amplitube distortion, flanger, Ampeg bass amp, digital reverb>

    2. (lead) API compressor, <Amplitube distortion, flanger, Chorus, AC30 amp>, SoundToys Chrystalizer

Note: I played the bass part on the 6-string strat on E and A strings. Sometimes I use a pitch plugin @ -1 octave to get a proper bass sound, but not this time.

    Keyboard (1x part)

<G-Force Virtual String Machine - Solina patch>, Sausage Fattener, SoundToys Echoboy, Lexicon Reverb

    ====================================================================================

I found the following info below online about the cure guitar pedal settings, and then I looked up some emulations HERE ... e.g. Amplitude Analog Flanger = Boss BF-2 Flanger :)

    A Boss BF-2 Flanger: manual 60%, Depth 75%, Rate 50% and Res 25%.

A Boss DD-3 Delay: all knobs more or less at 50%.

    A Boss RV-3 Reverb: balance 25%, tone 30%, r.time 40%, mode 10.

Then it's basically tweaking the settings until you find something that you like

I save it all as an FX chain which allows you to be up and running pretty quickly. I also save presets to individual modules.

I totally agree. Sounds good and I wouldn't worry about being too close to any particular cure song... unless your vocals are exactly like their sound/style.

This inspires me to make music ... any kind of music.

    Plainsong

"I think it's dark and it looks like rain," you said
"And the wind is blowing like it's the end of the world," you said
"And it's so cold it's like the cold if you were dead," and then you smiled for a second.

"I think I'm old and I'm feeling the pain," you said,
"And it's all running out like it's the end of the world," you said
"And it's so cold it's like the cold if you were dead," and then you smiled for a second.

Sometimes you make me feel like I'm living at the edge of the world, like I'm living at the edge of the world.
"It's just the way I smile," you said
