    SilentRun
is a small and handy Windows system software tool that can easily let you run multiple programs silently in the background. It can hide program windows and interfaces, and increase or decrease the priority of background processes. For some programs with sound output, SilentRun can also mute the program then run it silently in the background.

SilentRun has a simple interface and is very easy to use. To run a program silently, simply drag the selection box in the upper left corner of the SilentRun window to the title bar or the window of the program that needs to be run silently. You will see the program is selected by SilentRun and a thumbnail of the program would be displayed in the preview area. (Some applications use the non-standard GUI and that might be displayed as a solid black square). After that, you can select the background silent running priority (the default is the "Normal" priority) under the preview area, and set whether to mute the sound output, and finally click the "Hide It" button. You can repeat the above steps to let multiple programs run silently in the background.

Quitting SilentRun will not close these programs that run silently in the background. You can open SilentRun at any time, restore these programs in the "Silent Processes "list on the left, make them visible and run in the foreground, or close and kill processes directly.

In addition to the GUI visual interface, SilentRun also provides the command line mode, which allows you to run other visual programs through the command line. It automatically hides the interface of these programs and places them in the background to run silently. The command line mode also supports providing parameters to invoked programs and EXEs.

Lossless Cut has an awesome interface to cut and merge video/audio snippets. Freeware.
Find.Same.Images.OK is very useful when you have similar but not same photos duplicates, like rotated or different size or different resolution ones.
Set multiple comparison folders, the tolerance and go.
After the search you'll see thumbnail columns with checks to select deletion. Freeware.

Lossless Cut is great and works in Windows, Linux and MacOS. Great for cutting out scenes you don't particularly like from those nice videos that just keep piling up...

I love good and useful tools as I install OSes for other people, not necessarily just Windows and with years I came to really appreciate just a handful of them and forgot about loads of trashy tools there is for all the OSes out there, but especially Windows. Here's how I deal with ISO images and I find them extremely useful and use tons of them for work.

The thing about ISOs is - you can copy them far faster than thousands of files they can contain and you can compress an ISO to ISZ and use it directly! Great for samples, especially drum samples. Nowadays, with SSDs, speed of copying hundreds of thousands of files is less of a thing than when we only had HDDs, but there is still quite a difference in speed when copying a large amount of files from one disk onto another. That's why installing Arturia's software suite takes quite a while to install, because it contains hundreds of thousands of files of which most are just pretty pics.

For making and editing ISO images I use PowerISO and Alcohol Portable for mounting ISOs. As a sidenote: Linux has everything available in the OS for dealing with ISOs. No 3rd party tools necessary. Same with PDFs we all like and use. I was surprised that Linux has a PDF printer by default from every app. Again, no 3rd party and many times shady and/or expensive tools necessary.

I'm going to tell you about some other great tools, but after dinner.

Mount ISOs with Alcohol Portable, problem solved. It can even mount ISZs. VLC is the ultimate media player for any platform.

How about a simple shortcut to services on the desktop instead of running another background task to control background tasks? Honestly man this is...

So true and not only that. When dealing with thousands of small files on a fast SSD you can end maxing out your (one core) CPU usage making it the bottleneck and wasting your SSD speed.

You mentioned Arturia. I say fuck you EZ and Sup Drummer with your megazillions of MIDI files!! Put them in a damned file container of sorts, WILL YA?

There is no obligation or need to use it as a background task. It does not supervise (maintain) the chosen state of services. You start it, stop the services you want and then exit.
If there's a need, you can repeat this procedure any time you want.

I don't have a lot to add that probably wasn't already mentioned, aside from Greenshot, which I like as a screenshot utility. My favorite part of it is it can upload to Imgur automatically and make that whole process super easy for linking images on forums.

Also, qBitTorrent for torrenting. All the functionality of uTorrent without the bullshit ads and/or adware.

    - Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator: Let's you create your own keyboard layouts. Super useful if you need to type special characters for your local language or science/math, but also want to preserve the comfort of the US layout for programming.

    - RapidCRC: Checksum file checker/creator (for those sfv/md5 files)

    - OpenHashTab: Adds a tab to Explorer file properties to compute hashes for files.

    - ImageSorter: Sorts images by colour similarity. Very useful when you need to check folders of thousands of icons.

    - Qaltex: Cross between a calculator, minimal programming language and a basic spreadsheet.

    - Compactor: Applies Windows' built-in compression to files, but will exclude uncompressible file types, like zips.

    - WizTree: Super fast disk usage visualiser.

    - HoeKey: Tiny keyboard shortcut app.

    - Syncthing: LAN and Internet file sync for Windows, Linux, BSD, Mac & Android.

    - Spacedesk: Secondary display using your Android or iOS phone (not mirroring, it extends your display).

    - Scrcpy: Mirror Android phones to your Windows desktop, translates mouse input to touch input.

    - Registry Finder: Much faster registry search.

Out of your experience, in which way is it superior to voidtools' Everything?

I just downloaded the portable version to find out and it has some nice extra features and a super good looking UI but crashes a lot here for some reason and you can't close it unless you terminate its service process. So can't really say how superior it is since I can't use the thing

Total commander 11 (its shareware and has only a small nag screen), so i consider it free software.
two pane file explorer with lots of great features

Win Update Stop 1.4 (newer versions require license): Stop windows update with one click.

K-lite (Mega) Codec Pack, i simply love the MPHC with the collection of codecs.

AIMP, for me the best audio player, even i use most of the MPHC for playing music.

Because portable. Don't use portable. Install it from the setup. It deserves to be installed!

Microsoft should buy voidtools and implement Everything inside Windows as basic tool or set it as default searcher!

Interesting hint, I just had a look - and prefer VT Everything. Additionally, VT Everything portable runs without any problems and is WiN7 compatible.

Fluent Search is a launcher and a desktop search engine all in one plus you have plugins to customize it to you liking. and it looks better downside its more systemtaxing.
