Me too, though the scene here in northern nordics was pretty sparse back then, I mostly (don't) remember the illegal parties of early nineties. But the whole scene was a pretty tight-knit one as people knew each other. Good times!

The (UK) scene in the 80's was amazing, pirate radio would broadcast locations to meet. You would end up at a disused warehouse greeted to the squelchy sounds of a 303 and the famous "aceeeeeeeeeed", and plenty of smoke wafting over the heads of smiling faces. Legal raves totally killed the vibe

I only wish I could have experienced those days. I haven't been to many warehouse parties because they are rare around here but the ones I went to left lasting impressions on me.

Pirate radio too, I still listen to it myself sometimes. I bet it was still a completely different experience when it was fresh & new in those days.

I was going to say "surely Kraftwerk" but I think you're right, the KW hits were English versions (outside Germany that is) after all.

But this is a fantastic tune regardless, those fancy synths, oh my.

Hmmm... I must say Falco was an amazing talent and just gone too soon. RIP. But what have i got for ya:
Not exactly #1 in the Billboard chart (it was #33), but #2 in UK and surely a song we all remember one way or the other, here you are, fresh from exactly 40 years ago circa 1981, this track is also famous for the Casio VL-1 use:

Oh and while i'm on the Germanic influence, here's one of -what i consider- the most influential tracks of the 80s. Peaking at #1 of the US Dance chart in 1983 and produced by none other than Cristopher Franke (Tangerine Dream), this is one of those jams that will always sound fresh and different:

Since i'm on the influential tip, here's a track i always think of as one of the "forefathers" of techno and house from what is to me one of the most important electronic acts of the modern era, a unique sounding experience back in the day, peaking at #23 of the Billboard chart, still sounding as fresh as the day it was released (1980), please enjoy Yello's "Bostich":

I remember Trio referenced as "Pop nihilists" and that definition has stuck with me since. It's still a fantastic piece, love it!

I am surprised we are in page number 2 without mentioning one of the most influential tracks of the 80's: "Planet Rock"

On the other side of 80's dance music we had what they labeled "DOR" or Dance Oriented Rock which encompassed rock, new wave, and anything in-between.

Man, I saw that cover and immediately thought of this:

Kool Keith is a genius and this one was sampled by Prodigy no less!

    Great Thread
I first listened to this track

And it got me hooked. years have passed and I am still a big fan
Then there was this with it's famous video clip

Also these 3 are still great

I was born in 71 but fell in love with Occidental Music (I am in an Arabic speaking country) first with 80's pop then this led me to the 60's & 70's
I have thousands of music and songs from all eras and I love all genres with maybe as an exception Rap, I only like few tracks.
anyway thank you @The Pirate for the nostalgia

I could have posted hundreds of songs and Instrumentals so Pls forgive me for including one more. Enjoy

I don't see or feel "Final Countdown" as a dance song per se.

@Donut Nyamer Rapper's Delight is a historical song. This song was the first hip hop song ever to reach the Billboard's Top 40 Hits Chart.

Note: At the OP I asked of all of you to post songs but add some explanation to the posts. Some of this songs, such as "Rapper's Delight", have a a lot of history behind them which not everyone knows.
