I guess this is pre-disco really but I'm a huge Moody Blues fan so you're getting it anyway. Mike Pinder wrote and sang it but I guess wasn't happy with his version and asked Hayward to try... Still wasn't released... So they gave it to The Four Tops who had a hit with it. I think Pinder was later awarded an Ivor Novello Award for it.

    I prefer Pinder's original version...

    Hayward's effort...

Donna Summer's brilliant 1978 disco cover of Jimmy Webb's tour-de-force orchestral song 'MacArthur Park':

Richard Harris' original 1968 release is much longer & roams all over the place... indeed when i hear the segment from approx. 4' 50'' - 6' 15" i'm satisfied that it must have been a key influence for Paul McCartney's 'Live & Let Die', written maybe five years later...

Truly, they don't craft epic OTT songs like that anymore.

When I see the crowd of those golden years having so much fun, I can't hold back my tears. Truly.
I'd give all I have to turn back in time just for one night... and then die when the sun rise.
I sincerely believe that today's young people would kill themselves if they had known those magical years when all eccentricities were allowed... where people weren't afraid to touch each other and when girls were smiling at you - instead of filing a lawsuit - if you gently slap their butt on the dancefloor.
After having constrained our minds by telling us what it is good or bad to think, the health dictatorship is now attacking our bodies. Next step: end of physical contacts (search for Zuckerberg's "metaverse"). A real nightmare.
Sorry to have been "off topic", but the emotion overwhelmed me.

    And this...
Getting into the birth of electronic euro disco, everyone knows Giorgio Moroder but Marc Cerrone (just known as Cerrone) was also a pioneer of the genre.
This is the full 10 minute mix of his most popular hit - Supernature which, also back in the day, I had the pleasure of remixing.

The ganymed band operated in Austria in the 70s. It is interesting that Falco, also from Austria, also took part in the work as a bass player.

Seventies! Been waiting for that. I was actually a little too young back then, but I catched up..
The first ones I'd like to share.. not too difficult. It’s gotta be something of French producer Jacques Petrus and his ‘Peter Jacques Band’.

Petrus and Italian musician Mauro Malavasi were quoted to be creators of the early Italo disco sound. Malavasi is known for the excellent 'Macho - I’m a Man' (see below), Petrus with funk bands 'Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens band' (you’ll remember Starlette) and 'Change'. Also, his label signed Kano. Important names in both seventies and eighties dance music..

Below a link to an interesting article on the life and murdering(!) of Petrus. Apparently, his music was much better than the guy himself:
    https://www.vice.com/en/article/vvn...ss-rise-to-the-top-and-eventual-assassination

Fly with the wind, at 144 bpm, pretty fast in those times. That Conga break at 5’50!

Macho - I'm a man. 17 minutes! And when you think you've heard it all, at 8'20 minutes a killer break comes in, and then another! I'm still losing it when listening. 44 years old! No words..What a track!

Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band - A Fifth Of Beethoven (1976 )

(Patti) LaBelle - Lady Marmalade (1975)

I Will Survive (1978) went to #1 for Gloria Gaynor

KC & The Sunshine Band - That's The Way (I Like It)

Next up, Kat Mandu! Produced by Canadian Denis Lepage, better known as the creative mind behind 'Lime'.
It's easy to hear elements of the later Lime sound in this great track: 'The Break'.
Check them cowbells.. that bass! Damn!

Another Kat Mandu, equally great. But this funky track, 'I wanna Dance' is in a totally different style:

Speaking of Kat Mandu.. Katmandu! Or better: 'Hills of Katmandu' by Tantra, or the great Celso Valli,
who also created Azoto, Peter Richard and co-wrote the above Macho - I'm a man!
