So if an app can't open on MacOS Sierra I usually do the following which fixes the problem:

    1. Open a Terminal with appropriate privileges (“sudo bash” to make you root on most systems)

    2. Enter the following, substituting “AppName” with the real name of the app:

    xattr -cr /Applications/AppName.app

    3. Press Enter to run the command.

My question is how does it fix the problem, what is it changing to make the app in question work and am I doing more harm then good in the long run?

    Thanks for the help :)
