    Any rugs users here?

I'm currently setting up my small bedroom recording studio. The room itself is unfortunately an acoustic nightmare chamber. It's 3.4 x 3.5 x 2.4 metres. Raised wooden floors with foam underlay and carpet on top. Just walking around it creaks. The foam layer feels thin. Maybe its all old and compressed?

I've got no idea with this type of stuff. But I'm thinking a rug or two would be a start.

    1) Have you noticed a sound improvement from your monitors since adding a rug?
    2) What type and thickness do you like?
    3) Do the rugs need to go to the very edges of the room?

    Nicely countered

More on topic: in an ideal world you'd find a rug that not only ties your room, but also your mix together
But jokes aside, I'm afraid I can't provide much help/advise on that. Not sure if the rug is a big factor in terms of room acoustics, might be the case that a thick rug with some sort of texture helps eating up reflections :dunno:.
Had a quick look at this thread over here but couldn't see much about the floor treatment (yet). If nobody with knowledge about it chimes in here you should probably search the web for room acoustics and see if you can find something about if/how to treat the floor.

I watched some videos from Acoustics Insider.

To summarize carpet is bad because it absorbs only higher frequencies and basically none of the bass frequencies. I still haven't seen anyone mention putting a rug on top of carpet but the rugs I'm looking at basically are carpet so same effect.

    Back to the drawing board.
