Can y'all help me understand Teezio's approach when mixing, I’ve watched a bunch of videos where Teezio breaks down his mixing process. One of them shows him mixing a track completely from scratch.(Here's the YouTube video for reference) (

) Something I’m still not quite grasping is how he decides when a sound is too dynamic. I noticed he uses the MetricAB plugin to check if the kick is still too dynamic, but I’m not sure which meter he’s actually looking at to make that judgment. Watch min 3:30 to see what I mean. From watching that video I also realized that he starts working on the kick when it's very close to clipping, he uses analog hardware, does that have anything to do with his gain stage?

 

it's not analog gear related. it's a drum machine kick and he seems to notice he has the compressor reacting to it too much for what he wants to see, so he adjusts the compression ratio and changes the threshold.

I've never seen a video before where someone uses Metric A/B, Soothe, Pro-Q3, and Neutron to setup a kick drum. And a clipper.

Haven't watched the video, but just reading this sentence is already insane. I only do EQ and saturation on my kicks these days.

 

It's the kick drum track without any other channels playing, and within about 1 or 2 minutes of the video footage, like a plugin endorsement list. Maybe something needs all that stuff somehow, but it comes across more like a Jaycen Joshua MWTM video with time compression.
