I used to use D BLUE Tape Stop and it worked great. But it's out dated. The Waves Abby Road Vinyl is way too of a power hog and it's not really designed for tape stops/effect tricks. Any list of vst's with pros and cons?

I use the tapestop module in glitch2 from dblue.
Also you can try Grossbeat from Image Line, it does all kinds of pitch and volume tricks.
If you use ableton theres a max device called pitchdown that does only pitch down turntable brakes.
CableGuys timeshaper can do this type of fx too.

In Logic you can assign fades to pitch as well.

There are free M4L devices for this, If you're an Ableton guy.

You could also use things like IL Gross Beat, Cableguys TimeShaper, or Stutter Edit for this.

edit: I replied before reading any of the thread. Looks like this has pretty much been covered.

dBlue TapeStop is a buffer effect, so it has latency. You can export bus or master audio and use pitch envelope (all DAWs has them, afaik).

I just tried kiloheartz tape stop. Out of all the ones listed here except for Timeshaper (Havent had a chance to try it yet), the TapeStop module in DBlue Glitch 2 still sounds the best to me. It has more of that warble sound, if that makes any sense. You dont have to tweak a curve to get it. Its more pronounced with this plug.

Can someone suggest a VST or a way of doing tape stop/start FX in Reaper that works elegantly for 10ch simultaneously?

There are more competent Reaper users here for sure but personally, a quick and easy way would be to group the 10 channels you need into a Folder (remember, you can put folders inside folders) and apply the VST FX to that top folder. I would use Timeshaper, only because you can tweak 8 different tapestop (or other effects) and punch them in live with MIDI.
You could really use any plugin listed above and create an envelope track then program the automation for a more exact effect.

I've been playing with Live so long I almost forgot how powerful Reaper can be. Reaper is by far the easiest to learn how to do things you didn't know how to do before, IMHO.

Yeah thanks for that, but not that elegant for 10ch surround. Anyway, I found you can expose & automate the play rate thing so no VST needed for reaper.
