    G'day crew,
I've stumbled across a pair of Tapco (Mackie?) S.8 monitors at a very cheap price.
They do need a bit of TLC - One needs a new volume pot and the other needs a bit more to get it going (most likely new capacitor)
For $40 bucks I figure it's worth it for the drivers, tweeters, etc.
But I'm wondering how good a reputation they have and if it's worth spending a bit more time doing a thorough restoration.

    Cheers everybody.

    Vince

They are not as unforgiving as other monitors, which makes them not first choice for me. They have to much bass for my taste, also.
But what can go wrong for 40 bucks? It's always good to have another pair of monitors

Good to know, Might be worth adding an L-Pad and take out a couple dB down low

Although I used Tapco gear back in the day, never had any of their speakers. The mix console I had was pretty nice for it's day and worked a long time. Strictly pro.....These S-8s have class A/B amps. 60 Watts. seems they may be under powered to me.

I have some TAPCO PA's TH15's. Theyre okay. The woofers have really small magnets, and used to hum/buzz in the ABS plastic enclosures. I sealed up the woofer holes with foam weather stripping, like the same you put around your door frame to seal out the air. The thin stuff worked well. And now they sound a lot better. No more buzzing anyways. But hey 40 is the right price I guess
