I'm going to buy a tablet, wich I intend to use mainly for entertainment and only marginally for audio (music listening, mainly, maybe as a second monitor for my daw)
I was initially willing to buy an ipad air, but the narrowness of its expandability and the closure of its software are really turning me off; on the contrary, I am getting very enticing from the new SAMSUNG SM-T805 Galaxy specifications and its lower price.

    Suggestions?
    Thanks a lot in advance

I have a gygabyte Tablet. It's a bit heavier than most tablets, but it runs windows, has 2 usb ports (one is usb3), HDMI output, etc. You can upgrade it as you please. Now they have an SSD model (I wish I waited for that one, but the hard drive on mine is 500gb, so much larger than a standard tablet. Basically it's a touchscreen laptop, but without the keyboard. You can connect a keyboard and mouse to it though. I've had mine for a year and a bit. Pretty happy with it. If you don't go with windows, most android ones will do. What I like about the tablet is that I use it as an extra computer, with real computer software. And I'm not bound to an app store. The only con: you must have an antivirus on it.

Good luck. Let us know what you get!

EDIT: These are the latest versions of the Gygabyte Windows tablets:

It looks like they make Android tablets now too.

Thanks for the suggestion, Demon, really pretty device, just the one I need and I'd like to buy; unfortunatly, not to be found here (even on Amazon....).

I think I'll move to an android device (Samsung seems to be the best and cheapest): anyway, you comfort me that a musician can live without an Ipad..... :dancing:

A musician can live without any Apple product. Believe me!

    Where are you located?

been researching tablets there are a lot of cheap ones out there now. I was mostly interested as an alternative to use for surfing so I can keep my i7 off the net permanently for obvious reasons. Though I have found nice prices on refurbished laptops at new egg and some come with a 1 year warranty. i5's for $220 are calling my name as that is low enough to be an alternative to a tablet for my purpose and would get me a better screen.
