Hello guys,

I hope someone here can help me out. I have been using Stylus for about the last 15 years on my MacPro Tower without any problem. After cleaning up my disk drives from unnecessary files, I was just chocked that stylus is now asking me for Authorization.

Here is a picture of it.

Can anyone help me out here ?

 

This frequently happens if you are deleting plist files, cache, preferences, etc. You deleted whatever file was serving to authorize it. A good way to have this happen is using cleanup programs. Did you permanently delete those files or clear out your Trash?

It's a Legacy Plugin now to Spectrasonics, so fixing it yourself is your only option. Find a latest copy of it and reinstall it. You should not have to get anything but the application installer and any updates, no content.

Yeah, agree with @clone here absolutely, I would be real wary of those Mac cleaner programs etc, as they often throw out the baby with the bathwater...

So if I dont have a copy of the " plist " file, it is done for me?

Problem is there is no recent patched version from 1.10.2d from R2R

 

This is a nightmare...I thought it was only Stylus that was affected, hell no, the same goes for Omnisphere :-(

I remember very well that I had an iLok app under applications...and that iLok is gone. Is this causing these troubles?

 

Anything you have that uses iLok will not work correctly. But Spectrasonics plugins do not use it. You cannot keygen your way around a Mac iLok, and RMX has a keygen included.

Any plugins/software from around the same time frame which are iLok need a modified libstdc+++ 6.0.9 dylib used. You disable SIP and replace the old .dylib file with the new dylib file. The other iLok method is to create a folder called iLok in your /applications folder and place those files in that folder. Then the iLok looks to the wrong place and can be bypassed.

You can then install Altiverb 7, McDSP everything/PA Everything 2015 , 32bit Sonnox, Lexicon, and Soundtoys 4. It's about 50/50 which method to use for each release, that determines which way you have to get around the iLok. If just the /applications/ilok method, you do not need to disable SIP. There are others, but those are the more major ones.

Try to keygen RMX first. Those cleaner programs can do all sorts of stuff exactly like this. You have to be very careful about using them, and what files you allow them to delete. The companies who sell them do not care about modified stuff breaking. The files they delete are fine for regular users.

Don't you made a timemachine backup before? Maybe you update something if your mac is online. Whatever was the reason, you have to reinstall the same way 15 years before, if it doesn't work, update.

 

No I have deactivated time machine :-(

 

Yeah, unfortunately, and I mean that sincerely, you are learning a lesson the hard way.

I hope there isn't more loss of applications, but I suspect there very well might be with a 15 year old system you have been putting k's on over the years...

Never do anything without at least one backup ready to go.... (and better to have 3 kinda thing)

You did some major system adjustments and deleted all sorts of stuff (as clone said above) which is absolutely a pain in the ass to track down and find and reinstall everything... hell, I backup before I install a damn trackball driver... (which btw, why the f does Kensington want to bind to my cloud accounts "to notify me to NEW updates" and nonsense and God knows what else with my 18 year old well worn and well used Kensington Track Ball Pro or whatever.?.. it's bullshit)....

Yeah, sorry about that Blendramos... we all get burnt at some point or another, and then most of us try and make damn sure it doesn't happen again...

But I hear your pain with a 15 year old system and the idea of trying to source things is not one I personally would want to take on...

 

Sounds like you only need that key file back. Wouldn't just re-installing fix it? Installers for Stylus, Omnisphere etc are on sistersite and putins gasstation. Keep everything where it is and just run the installers again and see what happens.

Just something I want to leave here:
If you are running low on space, start the Boot Camp assistant and it will wipe old images. That can free up a few gig. Or just replace the drive with the biggest ssd it can take and mirror a snapshot to a exgternal drive. I am super anal about this and keep another mac in a box with the same setup. I also learned the hard way to do backups unfortunately.
You already know, but App cleaners can do more harm than good. Some cracked plugins are filed under "Nstive Instruments", but they have nothing to do with it like the Korg plugins. I deleted anything by NI, because I don't use those and some other plugin unregistered. Whoops.
