Apple and Microsoft are "restricting" on purpose.
Linux restrict by being so complex YOU DON'T have time to use it at the end.

Last example : i tried to make a SIMPLE USB RS232 interface on Linux : it never worked after 4 hours of work (and it is USB compliant no drivers). Spending time giving rights, command lines and such.
    Just gave up.
On Windows, it takes 5 seconds.

    Once again :
Linux users spend more time in command lines/forums/asking for help/running in circles ... than using their computer.

PS : I'm out ... i loose enough time talking with Apple, Linux ... fanboys

Stick with either Windows or Mac. Linux is still garbage as desktop OS especially if your a creator or gamer.

i setup serial rs232 terminal in linux/unix many years ago. it wasn't difficult, always use a rs232 breakout box to verify signals are on the proper lines.

something like this makes it very easy to see whats going on - its usually baud rate problems, or rx/tx lines are not switched properly

Wine is not an emulator, it is a translation layer :hifive: most of the Cracks for old games work without any problems, software should as well.
Here you can see my adventures with Linux, I had a lot of fun with it.

While Ghostspectre does a fine job for his builds, I think I can create a better build more suited for my use case then other generic custom builds out there. I already have a know-how and a treasure of resources, scripts and tools to do this, which I have used in the past.

Will update the thread how it goes. And many thanks for the suggestion.

Up until Windows 8.1, the telemetry was strictly optional. Then came Windows 10 with telemetry hard coded in the OS. And in July of 2016 Microsoft introduced forced telemetry for Windows 7 and 8.1

Users learned how to get around that mandatory telemetry in 7 and 8.1 since it was not hard coded inside the OS. All one needed is some registry changes, some dummy DLL's, binaries, disabling some services and tasks and it became 100% telemetry free.

Some telemetry can still be removed from Windows10/11 but it will break other things. But I'll get around the problem like I have always done, replace the binaries with dummy binaries and substitute the functions with 3rd party tools and patches.

Yea, I just tested a couple of distros suggested in this thread, in virtual machine, both of them failed to install. I have no clue what went wrong, let alone how to rectify it which leads me to reason, better stay with the devil you know, then the devil you don't know.

I'm getting Windows 11 from MVS as I type. Never worked or used Windows 11 before. To be able to customize it to the level I like, gonna have to learn the newer stuff and do some tests.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, your contribution is highly appreciated.

Thanks. I'm with you on 8.1, it was the absolute best OS I ever used, apart from Ubauntu which is nice in its own realm. People mostly hated 8 for its metro design logic but I started using it in 2017 by the time Windows 10 was already around. I quickly ported Windows 10 visual style for 8.1, made it default and changed the boring yellow themes Icons with beautiful blue icons system wide. And I also made a variant of the default Windows 10 visual style in dark before Microsoft actually implemented it half baked in 1809 which is still half baked in Windows 11 24h2 where some things like MMC consoles, control Panel is still white.

Put them on a USB stick, bootable. Use Rufus. Boot the computer from that stick and it will ask if you want to install or test. It doesn't damage anything if you just load it.

Mint shouldn't have any issues booting from USB. It should work on just about anything.

You've already spent ages on this in reflection. Its just a taste of headaches to come. If music was solid on Linux I think most of us would be using it already.

The deeper you get, the more time you invest, the harder you're going to try to make it work. Which probably leads to telling yourself that it has advantages etc.

Yeah, me too, had great black theme with amazing startup and all that, looked amazing on my Samsung screen, everything black, flat and all that, loved it to bits. :mates:

Had something similar for my Linux Mint Cinnamon, but it looked even better, think it was this one with blue accents.
