    Stumbled across this site & saw that it's quite active... maybe I can get some help from fellow producers for a new PC build. I'll mostly be MIDI sequencing hardware synths on an MPC, then once the song is fully sequenced, I'd like to multitrack all the audio to the Windows 7/8 PC (Reaper as the DAW) with a Mackie Onyx Firewire 1620i. I may use a few soft synths & libraries, such as Lush 101, Sylenth1 & the Vienna Symphonic Library... but most of my stuff will be dealing with one shots, a few loops & about 20 stems per project. I never get to carried away with FX / plugins, but I do use a couple FabFilter plugins, Valhalla Reverb & multiple instances of NI's Transient Master. I'd also like to be able to game a little bit on the side, mostly older ROMS with an Xbox 360 controller connected. My budget is as much under $1,000 as possible, while still keeping a modern updated, quality build, because I'll still have to pay someone to put it together. Thanks for any suggestions & help!

    Looks good! i would only make a few changes at very little cost....1/ 750W power2/500gb sdd3/2tb hdd
    only relative to what you want to use it for and needs to do that and add another usb card ? minor costs but edge yourself for future,these are minor cost upgrades but if you wanted to spend a bit more go 16 gb ram, this would be a crucial spend to me

    I'll suggest WD RED &/ ST NAS if you want longevity of drive & cheap, especially if you're keeping it on 23/7.

    16GB RAM + HD 2TB + EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 Power Supply (850 Watt)

    Evaluate carefully the space inside the case. Sometimes the power suplly wires are not long enough.

    thanks guys for the suggestions. i have a bit of OCD when it comes to adding FX & having more stuff than I actually need, so I try to keep my storage drives to a bit of a minimum. That way it sort of forces me not keep buying & adding stuff to the drives.

    The Crucial MX300 & WD Caviar Blue were the most reasonably priced & highly rated of the drives I was looking at in my range, so those are just what I added to the build list.

    ST NAS... I'm not familiar with that term. I'll look into it though.

    According to PcPartPicker, this setup is sitting at 281W... so the 550W PSU I've picked out should be more than enough, right?

    As long as the build, in general, seems like it would all work together & be stable... that's the most important thing for me right now, as this is the first time I've ever pieced together a custom build.

    thanks again!

    Hey here's what i suggest :

    [Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor] ✓ Good
    [Noctua NH-U9S 46.4 CFM CPU Cooler] ✗ Bad => Corsair H75 54.0 CFM (15$ more )
    [Asus Z170 Pro Gaming / AURA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard] ✓ Good
    [Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-2133] Go for 16gigs MINIMUM
    [Crucial MX300 275GB 2.5" SSD] ✓ Good (Depends on your choice)
    [WD Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal HD] Go for more!!
    [EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB SSC GAMING ACX 3.0 Video Card] ✗ Bad => ASUS GTX 1060 Strix (equivalent to GTX 980) if you ask me a far better choice.
    [Rosewill THOR V2-W ATX Full Tower Case] ✓ Good (Depends on your choice)
    [EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply] ✗ Bad => EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold
    [SYBA 3-Port Firewire PCI-Express Controller Card] ✓ Good (Depends on your choice)

    Good luck friend.

    ST NAS = Seagate Technologies NAS. I've has WD RED & ST NAS, both going after 1.5 years, 23/7 operation.

    Prolly cooked to death in the small AIO box. Blue (esp. 7k2) isn't meant for 23/7 on, or in poorly-ventilated spaces.
