Due a lot of requests Rick Naqvi from Presonus decided to post this:

"I can fully understand people wondering about what is going on with Version 3. Yes, we have definitely been working on it and would have loved to release something this year, but we felt it was more important to put out a release that was really substantial while still trying to preserve the spirit and workflow of what makes StudioOne what it is. We may be rather quiet, but please know we are listening. Our goals for Version 3 will be to focus on music production enhancements, sound quality and stability. No, I can't say a date. But I can definitely say that our team is 100% focused on taking it up a huge notch and redefining the value proposition of StudioOne. And as you know, when V3 finally ships, we will continue to put out updates that ADD FEATURES as we have done with Versions 1 and 2 - not just bug fixes. We TRULY appreciate the loyalty and support from our customers who have allowed StudioOne to rise so quickly in popularity in just a few short years. We will not let you down."

I also decided to post it here because i see a lot of request even here, and i think that not everyone are in the presonus group on facebook.

I don't see why they have to follow Cubase. I'd rather they take their time and put out something that's been worked on thoroughly and is stable. But, generally, they are a bit too slow on updates. They seem to be more focused on hardware these days. I guess they'll release it around 2015... I just hope it's something "big" and they've not taken all this time to add 2 or 3 features. And it doesn't look like they'll be redesigning the GUI or allow skins. But you never know.

:grooves: I know I will enjoy a new look to the GUI.

:snuffy: I know I will not enjoy another tiny feature update like an update to a studio one compressor setting.

Thanks for the news! The folks at Presonus are good people and they truly listen to the requests of their user base. While they do seem to be focusing a little more on hardware at the moment, there is a totally separate team that works with Studio One. While it is true that Wolfgang Kundrus (Cubase developer) left the company a couple of years ago, I think Mathias and the rest of the team are still there. I had the pleasure of meeting Wolfgang and Mathias a few years ago (as well as the aforementioned Rick Naqvi) at the first Presonusphere Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On that topic, if you get the chance, the Presonusphere Conference is held every year now and is a great experience even if you don't use Presonus stuff. I got some really great instruction as well as rubbing elbows with some really cool people. I actually had a 2 hour breakfast with Mastering legend Craig Anderton while I was waiting for my flight home!

An integrated Step Sequencer would be nice.... and a change to the drab GUI would be appreciated :)
mind you I spent years staring at Cubase V.2 on an Atari so compared to those days it looks bliss!

They seriously need to do something about the video support. I just tried to import one after some time and it's so painfully slow. It's idling at 25% CPU with the video loaded and jumps to 55% with just the video playing. Not only that... It's also still doing some kind of buffering before starting playback.

REAPER, on the other hand, is idling at 0% and jumping to about 30% (~27-36) with the video (1080p) and 11 instances of KONTAKT loaded (30% only when playing - Kontakt is also playing back...).

Samplitude: 0% idling with video and 11 instances of Kontakt loaded, 35-39% with video playing / 35-45% with Kontakt and I can see some slight bumps and lags here and there but not nearly as bas as S1. (It did crash once when I added the 8th instance of Kontakt with the video playing)

    :wow:

it may not be the answer you wanna hear but IMO the video thing is just a little plus, as you have already seen there aren't real cool options on this side. i'm not really sure if they'll add some options on this for the future, they are working hard in the Console and hardware side, they are working on iPad apps :dunno:

Studio One team is much smaller then steinberg so you'd expect development to take more time.

IMO is going to be the next release or they will release a 2.X.X update and then V3. why?! because they release an update every 3-4 months and the last update (2/12) was this:

    Studio One 2.6.5 Release Notes
    ==============================

Studio One 2.6.5 has the following new features and enhancements:

    - SoundCloud client to support new API

Studio One 2.6.5 fixes the following issues:

    - [OSX] Save As dialog path is the folder again

So they aren't working much on 2.6 updates. From now to mid April, i'll expect atleast one release
