I have Cubase 12 Pro (bought) and tried Studio One 5 and S1 uses less in my experience. I use Win 10 and a i5 and i7 with similar hardware specs (16 GB RAM, 2TB SSD...). Although I have to say that both run better on the newer i5 with 2.4 gHz than the older 2.6 gHz i7.

You do realise that CPU usage and DSP load are two different process. For example your DAW DSP load could be 100% but your computer CPU is only at 25%.

    Owned S1v4, v5, and Cubase 8.5 and Nuendo11. S1 way lighter & faster than Cubase & Nuendo.

My friend is a top producer since the 90s, and he recently made some serious tests comparing Cubase 12 and Studio One v5.5, in several PCs and Dual Xeon servers (bare metal and VMs). The clear conclusion is that Studio One is more CPU-efficient *and* thread/core-eficient than Cubase. As least it was about a month ago...

With FX Chain oversampling set to max on all tracks, probably Reaper too. That would even toast a top notch i9.
