Fresh installation done in April and I am obsessive about keeping my machine clean and use CCleaner every few days to clean everything as well as manual cleaning, including uninstalling things using IObit Uninstaller Pro that removes registry entries and deep files etc to properly clean things.

My DAW also works fine when things are normal and working ok.

My motherboard is the Asus Sabertooth X79 thay can actually host up to 128GB with the right DIMMs

You might be onto somethibg here as I have also disabled it for audio optimisation. Will reinstate to see if it makes any difference

Nope. When it happrns Task Managers shows a 2% CPU usage and memory bounces between 7/8% and about 15-20% but nothing obvious

The throttling happens across all drives on all USB ports, both USB2 and USB3. Also it happens on ones connected to a hub and connect ditect to PC. And lastly, I thinkbit might be a chipset driver that was updated aome weeks ago but that is with no conviction asbit was fine for first few weeks.

Everything is easybif you provide a sokution regardless of whether it works or not :)

I have no bluetooth and use wired ethernet so your easy solution doesn't apply.

Weirder still when you Google throttle transfer speed 355KB/s and how common this precise speed seems to be in relation to throttling file transfers!

What i think it is :
Powered USB HUB : make sure that your USB hub has enough power ... had this problem for a year before i noticed and fixed ...
    Might also be :
    Power Supply ?
Anti-Virus ? (AVG has been updated - machine was slow for 1 days or 2 days ... before it settles )

Did you tried turning high priority and full affinity for asio/soundcard drivers too? Sounds weird but eh, there is no exact science with this kind of tool. I've always seen subtle/high improvements until you VS! You must be somehow, cursed by the Cubase god idk :dunno:

    Yea, tried that.
Cubase has a Steinberg audio power scheme so maybe its already optimized to the max, idk.

Yeap, might be this, simply. Still wondering why it actually degrade performance instead of just doing nothing, though!

I would do a clean install with just the basic software, to see if it is related to any software.
...than I would try to do it with just one HD connected, to rule out the disks...
...other options are underclocking the processor, disabling lan, disabling power schemes, checking the bios for any misconfigured option, disabling the gpu if the processor can handle that job, taking out some of the memory... and so on, until You find the weak spot.

This is a major reason why I've never been a big updater (early adopter), especially with my music PC. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
But if you're connected to the internet with this machine, updates are a good idea because they close security holes, so kind of a catch 22 there.
I wouldn't feel comfortable having a utility automatically updating my drivers either. Sometimes there's a driver update that requires a BIOS update, etc.

A hub power supply is worth a shout. It is currently plugged into a surge protector but might try and plug directly into the wall.

My PSU in my PC is a Corsair RM850X and in reality I could have managed with a 5-600W PSU probably,so deffo not that.

Got OS on SSD, a couple of SSDs with libraries on and then got external HDDs. All are reporting healthy and fine status.

It doesn't auto update them. I choose when it runs and when to scan. I can then select which ones to update. I have the latest Asus BIOS for my motherboard though, so can't see an issue there.

Are you trying to transfer to external HDD? Got a bit confused.. Anyway, my ext. HDD showed same kind of symptoms twice, first it was the coming of usb3 and the drivers sucked, but it worked fine on usb2(not you´re case, since you´ve tried all the ports). Second time the controller chip was dying, and eventually I needed to take the drive out and connected it to directly to computer to save the files.

Since you have many drives, it could also be IRQ issue.. maybe.. dunno if these things appear any more, but they were back in year 0

Well it fucked up my registry. After uninstalling windows its freezing on me, cubendo hangs, system restore didnt help, getting the 0x0000022 error, will try to fix now.
Should have known better not to play with a well tuned computer.
