    Oh fuck. Fuck fuck.

Sure he was an abrasive asshole in his personal opinions, but by all accounts he was a respectful sound engineer. And man did he record some awesome records, and never overstepped that boundary. The man had the possibility to take percentage off In Utero... and he said no, but he'll record it for a fixed fee.

Indie music has lost a giant.

R.I.P. he produced and mixed some of my favorite records in underground rock and punk; that were influential as whole for the genres

like these drums are still some of my favorite recorded acoustic drums ever; that kick is beautiful

    this album is classic

salute for your contributions to music sir :shalom:

Ah fuck, this is sad news. Been a fan of his music from Big Black through to Shellac, and he's produced some fantastic albums. I've recently been listening to the latest album from Mono, which I'm guessing must be one of the last he produced. A huge loss to music, RIP.

Any Neurosis fans here? They were my favorite band for years until everything happened with Scott. Albini was a huge part of them finding their sound. RIP to a legend

He was a nice guy. I hung out with him in the early '90s. The recordings he made of Whitehouse are never mentioned, but they eat your face:

he was one of a kind for sure. they did a Big Black reunion set at the Touch and Go Records 25th Anniversary.

After 10+ years, a mobbed show outside. And they played 4 songs. lol. Perfect.

RIP Albini. Always a legend in my book. Big fan of all his art and engineering work. He recorded/produced shit tons of bands I love. I use his drum library a lot. Even the Kurt Ballou one recorded at Electrical Audio. Such a big loss. Damn. Still can't believe it.

me . Watched them live once back in 2014 and had the chance to hang out with the band for few hours one time, bunch of cool dudes. The tour manager was such a sweetheart. Anyway, which album are you talking about ?

His response to record to Nirvana about recording In Utero is stuff of legends, "If a record takes more than a week to make, someone's fucking up. Oi!"

They started working with Steve in '99 for the album Times of Grace. I read somewhere that Steve was so efficient that they ended up booking way more time than they needed since they were used to taking longer to record an album. So they ended up recording the Sovereign EP during the same sessions, and there are even more outtakes of that on a multimedia disc.

The next 6 albums were all done with Albini up until the end in 2016.
