I have a question: I am a legitimate Cubase 14 Pro user and have been using UVR5 as a stem separation tool so far.
I’ve been quite satisfied with it, but if I’m not mistaken, there haven’t been any updates for this tool for a very long time.

I’ve heard that the stem feature in Logic is supposed to be very good.
Now I’m wondering how the stem separation tool in Cubase 15 Pro compares to that.

I was actually planning to upgrade to Cubase 15 only next year, because I feel a bit taken advantage of by Steinberg, paying €99 every year for an update is not cheap, and I personally didn’t find this update particularly impressive.

I would only upgrade because of the stem feature if it is really good. Then I wouldn’t have to constantly switch back and forth between UVR and Cubase.

It's limited because they aren't going to cannibalize Spectralayers by bundling in the exact same functionality into C15 essentially for free. You get 4 stems, and the algorithm is equivalent to Spectralayer's "Fast" quality. Obviously this is outpaced by higher quality modes of any dedicated stem separation application. It's not terrible, it's just a nice to have utility to compete with other DAWs that include similar, basic stem separation functionality.

Also, I don't blame you for not updating to C15, it was a bit of a stepping stone release that focused mainly on expression maps, and then a ton of miscellaneous things. I think C16 will be a more complete package of all the changes they have been making since 13, which is why it's OK to skip versions sometimes.
