More like fight V.R's antitrial crack, plus people don't wanna be tied back to a "server", a step backwards if you ask me.

In the tapes era, all was recorded on a master tape and that's how things were preserved. Now, with software going rental route, almost guaranteed that no one will be able to open a 10-years old project unless the entire project is bounced to audio multitracks (but there will be huge issues in exporting & recalling if there is sum-busses processing and master buss processing).

The weirdest shit happening right now - we live in the age of very developed digital software but the chances of losing projects are higher than ever. Like futureproofing is going backwards. smh

    This is the internet...

Steinberg uses dongle > I hate that dongle if they would get rid of the dongle I would definitely use Cubase.

Steinberg removes dongle > Cubase sucks and the new copy protection is even worse. They should remove the protection entirely. My XYZ DAW is just the best but if they would get rid of copy protection I might consider it.

If Steinberg would get rid of copy protection > Cubase is a real cheap DAW that no one wants. It's so shit that they don't even need a copy protection. If they had a dongle that would make sure I own my DAW and can use it on any computer with my protected license maybe I would use it.

    Server-bound I also find a step backwards.

It's the year 2021 and there are tons of alternatives to buy:

    PreSonus - Studo One
    Image Line - FL Studio
    Ableton - Ableton Live
    Bitwig - Bitwig Studio
    Avid - Pro Tools
    MOTO - Digital Performer
    Cockos - Reaper
    Propellerhead - Reason
    MAGIX - Samplitude
    MAGIX - Music Maker
    Apple - Logic Pro
    Adobe - Audition

So, in short, they're going to use t'interwebz as a humungous dongle.

I've been a Cubase user since v.1.0, and Nuendo user since v2.0. This is a move in the WRONG direction. With the dongle I've been able to quickly move between three computers easily and legally. Now, with required internet - impossible when I'm on the road with my laptop - and only 2 "one-year" installs, it leaves me one computer short without spending another $1000 for another license. What will Steinberg do when the internet is down, and I've got musicians in the studio for a session, some who may have traveled thousands of miles for the session. This is a bone-headed move on Steinberg's part. I've been deeply exploring Studio One and it is looking more credible everyday.

That's one of the many reasons I use Reaper - it has zero copy protection, you can use trial version for opening and bouncing your projects, bought licenses are permanent and featurewise it is better than Cubase by a long shot.
This is also the reason I avoid subscriptions of music, video and graphics software - I want to make stuff for decades (I already make it for 16 years). Paying for subscriptions of plugins or for Adobe suite means paying for the possibility to open your own projects, it's crazy :)

This days, it's much more easy to use your Phone as Modem for laptop to checkin Cubase. i'm pretty sure it cost around 1 minute.

Now compare this method with dongle.

I think this is a smart and good move. I am looking forward to what more Steinberg has to offer and I'm sticking with them.

I don't know why people hate so much Cubase?
It is a matter of preference! Okay?

I am not saying Cubase is the best or something, but if works for me, maybe won't work for you!

This is Steinberg Cubase thread and i am not interested in your REAPER offers!

Just make yourself a special Reaper thread (REAPERHUB)
where you can WORSHIP REAPER and have a orgasmic talk between yourself telling each other how great the Reaper is...

    OMG! Boring and repetitive!

About new licensing system, well it will not be so friendly like the dongle was
(because you could use it offline) but with new licensing system you will get licenses for 2 PCs which is great in some way (AND YES THAT IS A BRIBE TO STAY SILENTH , f**ing bastards),
but that periodical license verification just makes no sense at all!
That is shame i don't like that either!

Instead they could also implement RENT-TO-OWN licensing model
    ,
which would be superb for many users...
Same thing, I will pay as long as I wanna use it when i wanna use it, from month to month, but at the end I would like to have it , forever!
BUT NO, THEY ARE SO GREEDY!!!! They need more or TOTAL CONTROL!!!!
    R2R come on!!!

But other side of license verification once in year is fair enough, because it would be easier to CRACK THEM!!!

This fuss around Steinberg has been made because Team AiR appeared with Absolute 5 license generator.
There is a talking around that Team AiR have all the licenses existed already on key generator, but why is not that released I don't know?
That freaks them out, but even more was REASON cracked, and lately PT.
    That was Earthquake for Steinberg.
I have said long time ago that Team R2R is waiting for Cubase 12 to get out to release Cubase 11 and 12, because there is a lot talking I have heard lately that Cubase 11 is completely cracked and just is the matter of time to be released.
And just to be clear I have not heard that here or on sister site...
I hope all that rumors are true because i have heard that from trusted source...
