Is it just me or is anyone else finding this guy Annoying? What I mean is Cubase 7 is like everything to him you can't write music with any other daw except Cubase 7. Because what ever Cubase does it the best. It's this feature that feature bla, bla bla,

 

Although I dont think its to the extent you described, he is paid by Steinberg to be a spoke person for them and their software.

 

I have watched quite a few of his videos and I get that impression. He is like a baby in a candy store that just found a lolly pop and because he found it, it was the best one.
Yes I do understand he is getting paid by Steinberg.

 

That means he's really good at what he's getting paid for. I'm too getting a weird vibe while watching him, but the dude obviously knows his shit. Knowing that he would be as existed while being paid by any other company doesn't change that.

 

I just watched 3 videos he did on Halion 7 it was more mellow on these. If you watch the Cubase 7 ones you will say my GOD man there are many DAW that can do that Cubase 7 is not the only one that has that feature.

 

I dont see the problem. He's just a hype man. Most software companies have them, it's pretty normal. If I was a company and had some guy super excited and animated to promote my product the way he does, I'd be stoked. Shit, I bet you would be too if Steinberg sent you a fat check. He might not be your cup of tea but the dude does his job well.

Will we ever have a good alternative to Kontakt or are we stuck with it for twenty more years?

 

LOL with all these libs I rely on bound to Kontakt, I just cope, for lack of a better word.
After all the struggling and whining I have done the past 20 years, I have come to accept our relationship. I know what I can and can't do with Kontakt, I know how to get it to cooperate, and how not to piss it off, but when it refuses to load or repeatedly crashes Cubase out of spite, I just go play with Arturia instead, who never gives me grief.

 

This FM-Lab sounds yummy.

Since all the FM-X algorithms are included, it should be able to import Montage / ModX patches.
If it's not, it's obviously a software limitation... that could be removed.

if someone curious - R2R utility gives you long "trial" to try it. I've tested - works ok

 

NO I meant Cubase 7 his videos on Halion were quite mild on the hype.

 

I guess you are right but being older and wiser I don't fall for easily the BS Hype any more.
I guess if all you are in it for is money then yes a big fat check is good.

 

Forget the guy: the thread is about Halion, the guy is only a distraction and doesn't matter.
That being said, there's nothing wrong about him being passionate and doing his job well.

 

True but is he really passionate about the product or the money?

 

Being passionate about what you do is obviously a plus but it's not mandatory in order to do a good job.
Even if he's only here for the money (we don't know that), it doesn't matter because he's great at what he does: In the end, this is what matters.

Now to get back to the subject: What do you think about Halion 7? What about FM Lab?
Are you going to try any of these?

 

Well I upgraded yesterday, and I'm thinking 8 out of 10. Lack of vector support still a bit of a problem, but the new clean look and the workflow improvements to keep unnecessary stuff out of the way help address the problem. Sound quality is much improved, the new time stretch algorithm and spectral oscillator are amazing, gone is rather flat sound of the previous generation. The FM synth is also amazing but like all FM synths a bit of a pain to program, however the macros in the included FM instrument make some very interesting sounds. Sound quality is superb, its crystal clear and bright. It has the Motif algorithms but only supports DX7 patch import at present.
New content is a bit light, I seriously can't believe they didn't do a bank to demonstrate the new Spectral Oscillator.... dhu!
They seem to have pushed the idea that Halion is a sound design environment, presumably knowing Kontakt has the Sample Library market sown up. The landing page really helps to throw you straight into a new patch.
Its not perfect in my humble opinion and I may find some niggles on the way but for a £85 update, I'm happy, I would pay that for the FM alone... its that nice..

 

recently got Steinberg.Cubase.Pro.12.v12.0.50-R2R - if I use download assitant and update to Halion 7 will if run ok does anyone know and still access your content?

 

You probably mean FM-X of Montage, not Motif.
