Why,should i be outraged? :) People make it sound like it destroys your pc or workflow, but its like leaving a usb stick in one of your back ports,it doesnt really fuck you up in any way, zero problems.

so if it would be an option, you would still go for the dongle and the other alternative is a serial or online/offline auth?

i would give cubase 6+ a try, but not when it comes with a dongle, not paying for the companies product protection.

I also wish there werent homeless people and poverty, but rarely things work out the way we wish :)
I do understand your point, however its still a minor thing,a first world problem.
The good side is,its not an ilok, lol, that thing can however cause some serious problems.

Nah, not outraged; at least a bit irritated, cause you've payed for a protection you did'nt ask for. Above that: Dongles are so 1980....

Cubase and Ferraris don't mix! Does your Ferrari start without a dongle?!

i remember a friend told me, he was on holiday with his notebook, wanted to make some music there and guess what he forgot at home dat damn dongle. what i want to say here is that a hardware dongle is impractical or imagine you break it ...

I know what you mean.I use AI 8 version(which i got for free with a cmc controller),works well for ideas and smaller track projects and then just import it to my main rig 8,5 pro and i dont have to worry about losing the damn thing.
I can understand if people avoid software because of dongles and i dont really want to persuade any one what to use or not,but there are cases where pro arguments outweigh the negative aspect.
My recommendation, invest 25 euros, get the dongle and just try it for 30 days, that way you will know for sure, otherwise it could be a wasted opportunity of using something great.
I used to be in the same boat a few years ago,but then quickly changed my mind.

If you break it you can contact steinberg and transfer the info
They do and the new dongles are half the size of the older ones.

so i invest 30€ try that thing and then i have still invested 30€, i mean you cant sent the dongle back.
for what else i would need an elic?

nah i am fine with ableton, its flexible, you can auth over the browser from everywhere in the world and when i am somewhere i just fire up ableton. for live use the whole dongle thing is just stupid.
(no daw wars! thats just my point here)

    @ArticStorm
You can re-sell it quickly for 20-25 euros.
Or you can keep it and use it for demoing many plugins and programs.

Dongle is a pure peace of crap. If the invested as much in the software in making it better as they do in the bs of the dongle it would be worth the price.
