For a windows wavelab addict, and coming from rock solid v6.1 - is any of the new releases as dependable as the ye-old?

I could just dl a few and try them out, but there are so many, inconsistent, and extended, and a lot of critical comments. That's why I ask.

Steinberg.WaveLab.v6.1.1-AiR was the latest truely stable scene-release. After that, only partially and unstable "cracks" or "antirials". This is due to the ramped up copyprotection Syncrosoft eLicenser/Dongle, acquired by Steinberg

    Just like @Jayster said.
I was going to recommend you Adobe Audition that probably is the best cr*cked alternative. But if you really like and master WaveLab perhaps you should continue to use it.

I'm a huge Wavelab 6 fan as well, enjoyed it for over 15 years. What Jayster says is correct.

yes confirmed as above. latest frustration with bullshit VR e-licencer only served to tease me into liking wavelab so much i am considering getting it for real. all steinberg stuff is syncrosoft e-licencer like this - and so is non-Avenger stuff from Vengeance like philtaxl and metrum etc. so if you eventually get e-licencer for steinberg (if you go that route) you can also use it for all the vengeance fx plugins which are dj - friendly

The only way to truely make a working crack for that Syncrosoft shit is to code a *full* Emulator for all of its functions. The last man on earth to succeed in that insane quest was Gouda/Team AiR. He worked ober 6 months on it and died shortly after of colon cancer. RiP Gouda, you will always be remebered as of the greatest crackers of all times!!

Something like a (real) full emulator for the Syncrosoft stuff has never existed.

Gup (or Gouda as we called him because he was dutch) was suffering from cancer for many years. It still hurts that he had to leave this world that young...

Thanks for all replies, and knowledge. This forum rocks!
However, while praising the old geezer 6.1.1, I got into some strange trouble on my new Ryzen 9 machine. With a fresh installed win10 pro, and ONLY installing wavelab 6.1.1, it is closing without any warning or confirmation as soon as it is idle for some time. (and only then, not in the middle of working with it, screensavers and all energy timers is off, cpu set in bios to never tune down or close cores - unless it reverted at some point)
Before that I had to deal with the elevation problem so I can drag n drop files into wavelab, effectively disabling UAC all together.
It does write red cross errors in the event logger, so something is messing with it.

Anyone got an idea what could cause these sudden kills?

The only stable syncrosoft dongle way, is to get a dongle, install the dongle protected demos; Waveland cubase pro and nuendo and use a set date command to keep the date within the 1 month demo period. Time of day is unimportant. As soon as you start a program with the wrong date, the demo is gone for good and the dongle unusable until a next version comes along.

For me it's just an editor, so I can get away with just using the most (Mac) current version of Elements. the "lite" versions have usually been less protected, so you will just generally see very functional scene releases, if they do what you need.

Thanks, but I think I'll need that in layman's terms. What is VM? Virtual machine, memory? How to do that inside a win10pro inst?
Would it work in a sandbox too?
Is it common for VL6 to crash in win10? How come it only crashes in idle?

Sooo, I went down the rabbit hole of virtual machines, and I won't be doing that anytime soon again. A program like wavelab that needs fast audio resources and write gigantic files and encode and process on the fly doesn't really like to be pinned in by a vm. It's hard enough to make it work on the real machine and getting drivers and everything to play nice, and then adding a dummylayer to that is no fun.

I did get win7 and wl to run somewhat "not stuttering" in VirtualBox, but not with any vst or RME audio drivers.

Windows own hyper V crashed on start, but that had to do with me not knowing i had to activate virtual mode in the CPU, which I learned in time for VirtualBox.

This whole thing seems a little much for an unstable dll somewhere, crashing when program is idle. (My guess)

Do you want to see the event logs of the crashes?

well, it’s was the H2O / AiR releases that introduced me to recording, so I guess that you are partially responsible for the fact my room looks like NASA and my bank balance is pitiful

There's nothing wrong with latest VR's b22 antitrial I'm using WaveLab Elements 10.0.40 it's way better using the multicores than 6.1.1
I remember 6.1.1 encodes a 1 hour file to mp3 in like 22 minutes and the same file saved with WL elements takes like 3 minutes.
Yes I was a massive fan and I couldn't live without Wavelab 6.1.1 but the exporting time is so annoying because it's only using 1 core.
The best alternative would be SOUNDOP but all of the cracked versions have a exporting bug where it puts a gap in every 15 seconds when you save an audio file.

it is not necessary to make a full emulator, a lot depends on what software needs to be cracked, as well as on how long ago the program was released. now it will not work to use the method used for cubase 5, and for cubase 5 use the method used for cubase sx 3, etc.

around 2008-2009, in order to run tera (by VirSyn) in the host application and use the basic functions, it was enough to simply remove several calls to syncoacc.dll from the code. of course, some actions caused errors (for example, trying to save the preset in the format for this plugin) and after closing the window with the error message, it was necessary to restart the host application. it's not a crack - a fact, but I did it for myself - it was enough to write a bass loop, export it and then use this loop in the project.

I agree, he did a great job and this work is a historic event. but his method of bypassing protection is not an emulator. and (IMHO) this method is better than the emulator.

a lot of time has passed since then, but I don't think that the basic principles of this protection have changed much. however, due to the elimination of vulnerabilities and the addition of various types of checks, it will no longer be possible to use something like that.

if explained very briefly and simply, the protection scheme was something like this:
    - executing the code, the program reaches a call that refers to the file syncoacc.dll
    - syncoacc.dll checks the license and, if the correct license is available, returns the data to the program - the address to call
    - the program receives the address for the call and executes the code

if the correct license is not present, then another address for the call was returned, having received it, the program showed the corresponding error.

many files were modified to bypass protection, but the program was based on its own syncoacc.dll. the file was a kind of "table" that returned the decrypted data to the program without checking the license.

that's why this method of bypassing protection is not an emulator.

what about emulator by H2O (for cubase sx 3 and some other products)? it was not a real emulator too?

It worx - thats what counts at the end of the day.

Its not a trueemu anyway as its a combination of patch and emulation
