audient evo 16? around 450 bucks. It does not have 32bit converters. But do you need 32 bit converters...

 

I think UFX from eBay might fit in 1K price range by now
(not pushing RME again, just thinking what good alternatives at SSL-comparable quality are available)

 

This will not make u a better anything...

 

Motu 828es with AVB. onboard/wireless networking possibilities. onboard dsp. and mixer. spdif coaxial/rca type i/o, 2 adat optical. word clock, etc. (Whichever model is best for your # of incoming sources). Under a grand, but not by much.

If the answer to your question is not in the thread on reddit, it's not the "exact same" problem obviously. What's the current os/logic/and device versions? People on Reddit with a problem, are not necessarily indicative of any problem at all. Ask here. It looks like Apple just threw parts at his problem to shut him up. They didn't repair anything, they carpet bombed it with new parts under warranty. They probably had the parts on the shelf already.

The real answer is power. My MacBook Pro did the same thing with a UAD so I sent the interface back. They should not sell devices like these to run off the USB bus-powered for audio, it should go to the wall. MIDI only I/o devices will run fine just off the system bus, they pull nowhere near the same voltage. Audio is too much, so the first thing you will see is it drop connection to the device.

What does someone do with a 700$ interface with only 4 analog in/outs? And who also have enough ADAT expanded stuff to make their 20+ whatever channel count true... And then to use the same cheap little thunderbolt/usb-3 port? that thing is going to crackle just like the motu m2/m4's. This thing might be ok, but it seems misguided to me. 700$ is real money and you can do better than this thing. easily. both of them.

Clone you didn't understand. This is not a Audient recommendation but a fact that ID44 under 1000 dollars has double adat and wordclock.

 

I understand perfectly that. It's a very odd configuration. Someone needing word clock and 2 adat connections to something with only 1/4 trs connectivity for 2 stereo devices? Where is this person losing Sync? Sorry if I don't see that flying off the shelves. Maybe it contributes to the price. It's a product with a small target market at best. But what they are also doing is adding 16 channels to a count number (via included adat) . It's like using a laser gun to hunt wooly mammoth.

What's the point of 32 bit converters, if such measurements (thd, dyn range, harmonic dist etc) are same or lower than most modern/older ones with 24 bit?

 

Some of you are comparing apples with oranges. To be clear, this is but a $460 audio interface, therefore, it should be compared to similarly priced products. With that said , in that price range, there could be other audio interfaces that will offer so much more, including sound quality, than this SSL. Again, this is a $460 product.

 

for 460 it is exactly the double of mine but perhaps better. I have a roland quad-capture ...
