Question 3: If i do AMD StoreMI on my ssd(s) only, do i need to over-provision all my ssd or just one? I don't think ill be doing hdd/sdd merge, only ssd(s). I'm using SSD from the same company (1x crucial P1 1tb (boot), 1x m.2 mx500 1tb, 3x sata mx500 1tb).. so it is under the same app to create over-provisioning part.. i wonder how should i do this over-provisioning and at the same time do AMD StoreMI on 1x m.2 mx500 1tb + 3x sata mx500 1tb .. help advise tq..

Its main attribute will be: Using a fast ssd to act as cache for a slower hdd, you can benefit in reads/writes and loading times. Caching an ssd with another ssd is pretty much on the useless side, unless your main ssd is a large capacity but cheapo QLC drive and the cache drive is a smaller but very fast one like an Intel Optane M10. Note here that Intel has announced the M20 model and is imminent for release. Hmmm, kind of peculiar selection for drives. First of all your m.2 mx500 is still SATA and not NVME. (Of course perhaps you know this, but even if i sound like a broken record, "m.2" indicates a form factor and not the type of connection. The m.2 slot is smart and understands when you have an nvme drive or a sata one. Depending on the mobo, users may need to do some adjustments from the bios perhaps). Of the drives you list the P1 is the worse, since it is a QLC drive and if you read my post, it shouldn't really be used for system/boot drive. The MX500s are TLC drives with better overall endurance and performance. You can do this simple trick and without changing much in your setup, the drive will be much faster. Just partition the P1 in half and (as i wrote in my post on the other thread) leave the other half unallocated. This half space will be used automatically by the P1's controller as overprovisioning space and the drive will perform at its best constantly, because this way you get rid of almost all of P1s flaws. The other solution would be to deploy the m.2 MX500 drive as boot drive and the P1 & the 2.5" MX500 as storage drives. The speed of nvme, doesn't help the cheapo P1 to perform better than the MX500. The P1 may have faster peak transfer rate at around 2gb/sec but its performance soon deteriorates due to its 4bit cells, unless of course you do that small trick i mentioned. Just for the record, the ideal boot drive in your -all Crucial- setup would be a Crucial P5. I hope this was helpful, Cheers Last edited: Dec 29, 2020
@taskforce thanks. I'm starting to to get the picture of this tech now.. somehow having big surprised, does this means.. i could get nvme speed on hdd if i do 256gb nvme + 4tb hdd? i'll be daymm if it does.. (p/s: i havent installed this app yet but about to..)
Sort of... But you can get close as long as the cache drive doesn't get full caching. In simple words your 256gb drive can cache (in your example) 256 gb from a 4tb drive. When it starts filling up, performance will start falling and when it's completely full, performance will drop to around hdd speeds perhaps a little better depending on the cache ssd type. Windows though, after a little time you used your comp, caches automatically the frequently opened apps and files and so a selection done by the OS of your most used apps etc, will be constantly cached to improve performance and loading times. Generally the bigger and faster the cache drive is, the better the performance of the two merged drives. Cheers mate

I don't, used to years back, when I just started with SSDs and Samsung Magician provided some boosting and over-provisioning, nowadays, since I mostly not use Windows, I don't have those utilities, so I leave whole SSD useable and just keep an eye on capacity to have at least 10% empty, that's all
