the button to the immediate left of Bypass button has Interface Size options, but when first installed it does open at like 150% by default. I thought it was weird it did that and maybe just me. You can diagonally resize it by dragging but only from the bottom right corner. There are a few little dots under the fake rack screw.

It is a pretty nice creative effect for stuff like lo-fi, techno, experimental kinds of things. Not exactly a one trick pony, but kind of close to that. For some people it will be not very useful.

 

I'm test driving it now, the controls are fairly straightforward and it sounds good for various shaped reverb FX (like the aforementioned Blackhole).

I like the freeze mode, that and synced delay time makes for a pretty fun, uh, "diffusion looper". Set the time, play in stuff, hit freeze to loop and it kind of captures just the spectrum of what you're playing and repeats that, then tweak the setting while frozen.

Sure, it's not like it's a unique freeze tool, but the way it starts decaying and responding to tweaks when freezing is pretty impressive without going to absolute mush.

This might be either a good thing or not: it does not stretch/repitch the contents of the buffer when tweaking the time so you can't get those wigged out repeats like you do with a lot of delay pedals or loopers though, but it's handy to be able to change the buffer settings while playing other stuff without it going apeshit.

But yeah, it's an Effect with a capital E, a sound design tool. I really like it so far, so thanks SoundToys!

 

I agree this is the primary use case, experimental sound design stuff. That being said, i was working on a pop song when i installed it, and it really did wonders for the vocal. A sort of lexicon on LSD vibe. Just interesting texture that settled the vocal in the mix without being too much. Short decay, short attack, tucked in the mix, just nice depth and width.

 

It says it isn't required but it needs to be installed. I don't know. Maybe you can uninstall ilok afterwards.

 

If you register this without an iLok.com account you will NOT be able to put it on a second computer. You CAN choose to register your anonymous license to an account later if you'd like to.

 

It doesn’t have to, it only gets installed if you select the iLok option. The entire process is illustrated on the website.

 

right, but as @Lois Lane was explaining, if you register it to your iLok account, you get 2 activations instead of one from my understanding, as has been the policy with Soundtoys for awhile....

 

Yes, it's all on the webpage I linked. It's been the policy since Soundtoys revamped its database. I had just forgotten about it. It sucks that the activation limit is reduced, but yeah, that's Soundtoys in 2025, no resizing, only 2 activations in total and ONLY if you activate the plugins through iLok. Meh... at least the plugins are still good.
