I'm trying to use a .sf2 soundfont, I know that I can drag it on to sampler but when I drop it it says:

No decoder was found from the file "direction from the location of the sf2 file"

Am I missing something here? Thank you

If you own Ableton Suite, or have the ‘Sampler’ plugin for Live, then it’s easy:

    1. Download the SoundFont file you want
    2. Open this file from the Ableton file browser

It will now import directly into the Sampler instrument, and you will now be able to play and use the sound however you like!

If you don’t have the Sampler plugin, then you’re going to need Sforzando.

    1. This is a VST plugin that lets you play SoundFont files – download it free from the link below.
    2. Install SFZ player
    3. Open SFZ player by placing it on a MIDI track
    4. From SFZ player, use the ‘FILE’ dialogue to select the desired SoundFont file

Thanks for the answer but I already tried that. I think this problem is new to Ableton 11 as this did not happen on Ableton 10, if you check the most recent comments on the embeded video you will see I'm not the only one with this issue. This did no happen in older versions, it's just odd.

Thanks for the great reply though.

I found it: " Note: As of Live 11 it is no longer possible to import .nki, .eks, .sf2, or .gig files into Sampler. "

    Supported sample formats
    • Live Versions: All
    • Operating System: All

Sampler supports the following sample formats:
    • GigaStudio (Live 10 and earlier)
    • EXS (Live 10 and earlier)
    • SoundFont (Live 10 and earlier)
    • Kontakt (Live 10 and earlier)
    • AKAI S1000 (Live 8 and earlier)
    • AKAI S3000 (Live 8 and earlier)
Kontakt .nki files can be imported only from .nki files that are of version 4.2.1 or older.
This is because Native Instruments changed the Kontakt file format with version 4.2.2.

Note: As of Live 11 it is no longer possible to import .nki, .eks, .sf2, or .gig files into Sampler.

Thank you @BEAT16, I couldn't find that info, this clears up the problem.
