I think you need to describe us the setup and routing, maybe upload some screenshots.
Additionally, info about OS is mandatory.

Does your Apollo interface come with a control software . I had a similar issue with my focusrite Scarlett when I first got it untill I figured out the mix control software before it hits your daw . I had to enable my interface inputs and outs in the focusrite software which then made them available in my daw logic x

edit I’m on Mojave and when I updated I had to allow my soundcard access to the mic to get it working with the daw .

    Interesting for an OS drive.
The smaller the better. Especially with SSD.

You can't see any level, not on the interface and neither in Cubase?

The reason you are hearing sound is because you're monitoring your inputs by default in the apollo console. You're probably not actually routing it into the cubase channel if you don't see a response from the meter.

Also, check the routing setup on the cubase channel. See what it's listing the input as. I never use DI so idk, maybe it's listed separately as the standard mic/line1 input. Or maybe your channel is using mic2/line2 as an input. Is the channel armed for recording? See if that makes a difference

Once you get it working, you'll want to either mute the channel in Apollo Console (if you want to monitor with third party effects), or make sure your guitar channel in Cubase has monitoring turned off (if you want to monitor via the console software). Otherwise it will be twice as loud as it should be

its also worth pointing out - if you're gonna plug a mic into an Apollo, either have your speakers muted from the interface, or have the Console input muted, or you could get a nasty feedback loop

Sorted it, Cubase wasn't allowed to use the microphone in OS settings - Mojave for some reason sees the interface differently as opposed to other OSX versions or something like that

    For an OS drive? lol.
Because there are less cells to scan for the OS, so it's quicker. Others will tell you more of the precise details of this. I am not that person!
And you don't have to make a bootable clone of 3TB! haha.
Who wants to have to replace a whole 3TB SSD when it happens?
There are more writes happening to an OS SSD than a storage SSD...
If someone has a huge amount of software applications, I can totally understand wanting something a bit bigger though.
    Just not that big, imo.

Why do you think they still make things with 500GB or a TB as OS?

And it's audio 101 since decades to have all samples and scratch disc for recording as external drives anyway.
