Which one of these two headphone is great for recording, tracking and monitoring? It will just be used for recording mostly. And does anybody have an experience with Samson sr880? cant find any review for it online.

 

The MDR7506 or Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. Both in same price range. The MDR7506 have a good range sort of like a pair of NS-10Ms with extended range. The ATH-M40x or M50x should have a superior tonal balance compared to the MDR7506.

The Samsons are okay D.J. type of work.

I have the m40x but it always snaps on me. I cant find a replacement headbands for it. So Im looking for something sturdy.

 

Had similar issue with the MDR series. The metal headband would eventually loosen the screw holding the bands in place or, just break them at the screw mount. Used zip ties to repair one pair & construction tape on the other. Never replaced either pair once the rest of the plastic fatigued. Don't know if they have improved anything since the early 2000's.

AKG is not available here. Its out of stock most of the time. The only other option that I have is Superlux HD669. I will only use the headphones to track vocals and some instruments and monitoring not necessarily for mixing and mastering.

 

almost everything is out of stock everywhere due to Covid-19. I like BeyerDynamic DT-990's or 880s in your price range. But you do have to treat them carefully; they are not made to dj at a club with.

 

Hearing what you are tracking is as important as when mixing. Well recorded tracks can allow for faster & more creative mixes. Another brand you might consider if available is Fostex.
