Is it possible to "beat" tetris?
Its was long believed that this is impossible. Turns out it is.

    upload_2024-1-5_1-53-25.png

13 year old Blue Scuti did the unthinkable and made the game crash with a "True" Killscreen, which made him the first person to ever "beat" tetris at a Level of 157 (!).

A "True" Killscreen is considered to have "beat" a game as its not possible to continue.
The unbelievable story and what other glitches Tetris has to offer can be seen in the following video.

Well, at least I can die knowing that happened.

(Not really sarcasm, this is cool.)

I'm a big tetris fan, always have been. And this is just amazing!

Truly mindblowing how the gameplay has evolved for this ancient NES game. They mocked the kid on Sky TV, but he's probably pulling more money from streaming than the presenter earns

It seems the programmer of this particular version thought nobody could play it that far.

I suppose it has to be a specific version of Tetris. I played a dozen different versions for c64, Atari ST, DOS, Win3.1, XP, Linux... even Reaper has "Blocks" in its "About" screen (shift+doubleclick). :) I wonder how many levels are there in "Blocks". Probably more than 157.

It's a good mind game that develops fast thinking.

That's really great, I still stand in awe watching the handful of people who can do a Rubix cube in under 5 minutes. Humans are getting smarter in 'some' ways.

The kid just hit the first kill screen, which is a impressive, but Tetris hasn't been beat, let alone exhausted to level 255.
Start the video at 13:50 if you just want the breakdown of the limitations of the game. (If you really want to geek out, the code decryption and charting of the game and its workings mentioned in this video was done by some guy named Hydrant. The links to Hydrants in-depth videos are below the video in the description.)

I beat Tetris at level 174 by bypassing the crash but I didn't tell anybody. It was no biggie.

Word. It's not about being humble; it's taxing, enduring all of the adoration that comes with the world knowing you're awesome. :chilling:

    Thanks for the video link.
Somehow it felt like watching a feel good movie.
I'm not into Tetris, but I like how people compete and cheer for each other. That's true sportsmanship, an act of humanity.
So nice to see the competitor's reaction at 11:32min when the kid reached the kill screen. Inspiring!

What a game. Anybody else here had those imaginary Tetris games in your thoughts just before falling asleep? Incredible

Don't remind me. Yeah, I have.

For inevitable "games are useless" bullshittery, I guess then that better reflexes and hand-eye coördination, or improved stress response are also useless.

I used to regularly play TetriNET against my buddy who was much better at it in the early 2000s. Those were the days.

It's kinda interesting how younger people have picked up all these old games and taken them to new heights. Blindfolded Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of my favourite runs ever, 10/10 entertainment.
