So at the moment im working on my debut album.

I usually make classic 90s Piano House style music, but for the album i stretched my legs and made some music from other genres, Including Drum N Bass.

Now i have a rough track demo'ed but unsure on the ear candy side of it. So looking for some ideas on artists or albums i can check out for inspiration.

Now, im aware there are sub genres of Drum N Bass and i think mines would fall under the Liquid Drum n Bass - category however if im wrong then plase advise what it would be termed as.

    Any suggestions are most welcome.

    Thanks.

Here is a SC link to a snippet of the track itself.

I'll listen a few more times, but I wouldn't call it liquid per se. Liquid has gotten very fast, to me anyway. 177bpm and so on.

Anyway, are you making a drumnbass track to go on an album with other styles, or just some stand alone dnb?

The hollow square sounding notes in the intro remind me a bit of the Bristol style, more than "Liquid". Like you were shooting for something kind of in the style of Roni Size - Playtime, and some of the other Full Cycle sound records.

yeah, that might be a little ambitious for a first dnb track. or any. findable in wav format though :)

anyway, I just mention the standalone thing, because surrounded by a few house or techno tracks on a 12 track album, you might make a different sounding dnb track to put with them on that batch of music, than you might just one single track.

if you are going to make music that is very genre dependent, it would be helpful for you to find a really good track of the style in wav format. that way you have a full frequency reference to use.
this one might be good for your use. it's available as wav and pretty much perfect. (for a reference)

All beginnings are hard - maybe reading will help a little:

:deep_facepalm: I don't know if you are trying to be rude or helpful. But between you and this guide, he might as well be trying to build his own rocket ship. Everyone should stick to the if it is not Aphex then it's not good enough rule. :). :knock:

it would be easier to go to Beatport and find a track, but something on bandcamp is usually easier about full wav files. but maybe harder to find something more current for reference material.

Hi @clone, you should know me better by now.
Of course I try to be helpful and also try to expand the limited horizon sometimes.

I think everyone should do what he can and it should not all sound the same, but the worst is when
you hear from people "you sound like that and the band" it is then no different than a copy.

I do. My only opinion is that the track is not "liquid dnb" sub-genre music. But out-of-date information is never helpful. Conversely, a decent recommendation for a good tutorial you have watched would be helpful, as an example.

I don't think that a beginner guide is that relevant here, even. Because the mix is so far out of being correct, there could be a good track hiding in there somewhere. You can't even tell right now.

Well @cloen nice that we are of one mind.
If there is no talent, maybe he should make music he knows something about. The mix is very thin - there is a lack of
bass and accentuation. He wants to make an album, who wants to hear that, half finished and immature.
    Practice makes perfect?

Cheers for the advice, comments, feedback etc

Like i said it just had a go at it. Its not mixed down or anything, Its just a raw demo. I dont know much about the genre hence my asking in here. I just wanted to make something out my comfort zone. I had fun making it tho and that was far more important.
Its perhaps more a breaks track than DNB but needs a lot of work.

I do love ''On'' by Aphex Twin. Love the simplicity of that track. But only mention this coz of user who posted the AT tracks above.

Anyhow, thanks again guys. Appreciate your time
