Is there any member that knows what turntables and mixers were used by DJs during the Disco era at Studio 54 and Paradise Garage. I was under the impression that they used Technics 1200 but every photo I have seen shows some turntables unknown to me and rotary mixers. Thanks

I can answer your question without seeing any photograph.

    Turntables were the Thorens TD-125s
The mixers were the Bozak CMA-10-DL2 and Urei 1620

I am not trying to be an AH here because you are answering my question, but you sound so sure that I have to ask how do you know that?

I know it for a fact. I can tell you every thing about those 2 clubs specially Studio 54. Let me say that I had a professional relationship with Studio 54, so what I told you about the turntables and mixers is a fact. Both sound systems were designed by Richard Long and Alan Fierstein and that turntable/mixer combo is what they used at the time. Club Zanzibar was another example of this turntable/mixer combo. The turntables used to be on a platform, floating on an elastic suspension made out of rubber bands in order to provide vibration isolation. Around 1980 or 1981, Studio 54 "allowed" DJs to choose the Bozak or Urei and in the basement they had an assortment of different turntables from which to select. They had the Technics 1100, the 1200 MKI and 1200 MKII. I have attached 2 photographs in support of what I told you.

@TonyG If you don't mind, I have one more question. How 'bout those Thorens with S shaped arms?

I am going to start charging you per question. If they look the same they are 125's with 9" SME tonearms or the 12" Ikeda tonearm. If equipped with 12" tonearm they are labeled 125 LB. By the way, the 125 MK I and MK II were made in Germany by EMT.

I used to Jam with Larry Levan and was such an influence in my life when I started out as a D.J. My sister used to take me there ... anyways @TonyG is pretty much on point. although I am not 100% sure as i was always the kid puking but from what little I know and remember about the Garage , I'm pretty sure his info answers the O.P.'s question. I can't speak about Studio, .That is another story that I'm saving for my Grand kids
