Yes you are right and this is valid for Waves version (some plug-ins especially) 7 too, it is very CPU intensive. But version 9r20 is most stable one compared to the others.

 

Yeah this is only solution unfortunately or to use other plug-ins which are more stable

If I were you I would check the system first of all! On first place for what reason you set buffers so high? With just this two plugs you should be on 256 value. If you can't then there is serious problem with your comp. You did not write anything about what you have (processor, mobo, RAM (type/speed), HDD (type/speed) -> If you expecting any valuable advice you have to provide more details

Where do you get the idea that the poster is talking about CPU consumption? He only talks about memory usage.

 

Why? I'll just put solved in the title and leave it open. Perhaps someone will come in the future with some helpful info, you never know.

Just a little contribution from a guy who used Waves plugins when some of you were still in diapers. But I'm not using them any more because there are much better plugins now and Waves are making living off their former glory just like Production-Tools.

Anyway, CPU consumption of Waves plugins have been rising steadily since then, for absolutely the same result. For instance, I've been using RCL [Renaissance Compressor] a lot throughout years. When V9 of Waves came out I installed them and decided to test against V4, V5, V7 and V8 of RCL and REQ. Renaissance series, SSL and API are the Waves plugins I still recommend to people. Those are still very fine plugins. What I found out is that CPU consumption is lowest with the oldest versions. Not by much, though, but the biggest difference in CPU consumption came with V8. V9 uses even slightly more CPU than V8. So for people who have older machines I'd suggest you to use Waves V7 plugins or even V5. If you're using x64 OS then you're stuck with V9 or try using x86 versions of V7 plugins with the jbridge.

seriously the dev's are gradually catching up with the latest hardware if not developing with the latest gear available, users however probably are not. How many here update their computer hardware every 12 months?

 

For now only... in some years we will need to learn chinese and the ones who learned other languages will be the kings of ocident!

 

hi a quick fix would be to render some of your stuff to waveform
then just turn off the mixer channels that you render to wave,
you can leave the plugins and settings alone and by powering off the mixer channel
it will free up your ram for more mixing,this way the plugins can be turned on again
if you need to redo something again at a later stage,
many producers run into this problem and this is the cheapest and easiest way to fix it,

 

1. Common sense, because memory is hardly ever a problem with effect plug-ins
2. Do you see a memory meter anywhere in his screenshot?
He's most probably talking about the ASIO-meter in Cubase, which has more to do with CPU (but not only).
3. Changing the buffer size has no effect on memory usage, but it effects CPU performance (thus the ASIO meter in Cubase)

-> So if my assumpions are correct, the thread title is still wrong.
