does anyone know of a great pc software to automatically organize your samples into categories (eg: kicks, snares, etc)

it's super time consuming to organize 12 trillion audio samples manually...I heard Akai has something but I can't seem to find it. MPC VIP doesn't seem like it will do this...but maybe AKAI makes something?

I'd like to try XLN Audio XO when I get some initiative to organize everything more. I have heard some good things about it.

that is a great drum machine, but doesn't do what I'm looking for. I want a program to move all KICK samples to a KICK folder, etc. really MOVE the file into the appropriate folders for me...

XLN XO is a horrible choice is you use SFX & Foley. Anything longer than 30 seconds isn't scanned... Sononym would be my choice if you're a sound designer, but it lacks the ability read or write metadata which is a huge bummer..

oh, do I know. lol. my collection is ridiculous, and I am somewhat OCD about it already.

When I get samples, I unarchive anything. Delete any Agreement, Art, Notes, or Demo materials. Especially Stems and "Construction Kits"/"Song Starters" ! Total fkn waste of bandwidth and hdd space.

I split out Midi into Drum or Instrument folders, any sampler patches or Synth Presets, and then Samples by type; with folders for Bass, FX/Misc, Drum Kits and Breaks, and synth/instrument content.

I change the folder structure so all wav files are only one directory below root directory, so you aren't clicking through a ton of folders when you are working in an Import Audio window. I would get a lot of use from a good Mac utility for this stuff. it is cumbersome and time consuming.

Sononym auto tags samples no need for proper names, once you use it there is no way back its so easy you will use daw's browser less.
    XLN XO for drums
    best workflow tip

Sononym and Atlas. but they wont move all kicks to one folder.... Sononym analyses each sample folder and tag them according to the timbre kick snare tom etc. Also does atlas, but they have a map thingy, if u include all folders under one map, u can group all kicks into that map to an area snares and so on so forth, I Own atlas and downloaded other from sister site. I use atlas more than Sononym, but while using atlas if u like the sound of a kick sample or what ever sample u go through, hitting like button will help the software to create an algorithm of ur likeness. This will help when clicking create new set, or picking a new sample randomly..

those sound like XO, which is dope. But yea, I'm looking for something to actually MOVE all the kicks to a KICKS folder...I started doing it manually (on a new machine setup) and realized...this is going to take MONTHS...I need software to actually move all kicks to a KICKS folder. maybe this software doesn't really exist yet...I saw a couple AI assisted apps but they are in development and aren't out yet...so I'm still searchin

I'm checking out the Mac version of sononym. I have it scanning a full 4tb drive now to test it out with when it is done. :) I wish it had a progress bar, even if it would be just a loose estimate.I am hopeful this will be a big improvement, even if it isn't 100% perfect for my purposes. (utility type programs almost never are).

it's only at 650,000 in 15 minutes of scanning. this is going to be awhile. I am hoping it can save maps for multiple hdds. anyway, thanks guys :like:

automation would be cool, sononym only does deep analysis, it has option to select all the sounds and moving to new folder. so you can still do that and it will save you lots of time.

thanks GT33, that kinda solves it doesn't it. I will hunt and find kicks and send them to a new kicks folder. that's perfect. I think my problem is solved I should mark this thread solved...

followup...I can't seem find the option to move all selected sounds to NEW FOLDER. I tried to move selected sounds to a new LIBRARY but it never seems to do it...

I'm going to try algonaut but I haven't given up on sononym...
