    Hey guys,

    quick question.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a software that converts .mp4 files to audio-only?

I have about 1.500 video files that I want to get rid of, but keep the audio.

Best scenario would be a software that I can paste a folder in and it just converts all the files to mp3.

    Thanks in advance! :)

it's funny, because I tried exactly that years back, aren't you by any chance ripping drumless RB tracks from youtube playlist?

jokes aside, Reaper features batch converter capable of doing so, years back it took really long time (one-by-one file queue) but recently I think they added multi-thread cpu batch rendering capability, so should much less time with latest Reaper I believe
    :chilling:

EDIT - fastest solution might probably be FFMPEG from commandline, as it might be able to just strip videos and save the audio portion of that, no experience with that though, sorry

    no I'm not
a couple of years back I was still DJing and a few clubs had TVs in there and with Serato you could Video-DJ. There were a few pools that offered DJ-ready HD videos and my hard drive hates me :D
Thats where my 1500 files stem from :suicide:

I don't need those big video files anymore and would like to only keep the audio.

I'm currently converting all files via Reaper and I'm shocked how good it works. Never thought Reaper had that function.
    Thanks to @tzzsmk !

Reaper's still crap at making my breakfast and doing my laundry. :guru:
Other than that - it's getting really hard to find stuff that Reaper can't do! :dunno:

frankly one of things I wasn't able to figure out in Reaper is, howto render without ANY metadata (perhaps it's fixed now too),
some older samplers are really sensitive on audio files given, and only Audacity can do that afaik, it's weird...

I wonder if you have considered just to extract the audio without conversion to MP3, since most Mp4's have AAC audio which is quite compatible too. That way you do not lose quality and it's faster.
You beat me to it
Wait a min... I think I heard somewhere in v7 Reaper does batch laundry/drying and coffee... :lmao:

I really wanted to keep all the metadata, but it seems like reaper can't do that.
Serato uses custom meta attributes to store their infos like cue points, loops etc. and even after editing the new file with the old metadata, serato won't show the cue points. :dunno:

Pazera Free Audio Extractor is free and does it all - between " over 70 audio and video formats " :

" Metadata (ID3v2, FLAC, WMA, MP4 (AAC), APE, Vorbis Comments and other tags) are automatically copied from the source files to the output files, if the selected output format supports storing metadata. "

    http://www.pazera-software.com/products/audio-extractor/

2° If not enough : XRecode II ( old v1.0.0.232 AFAIC ). XRecode III needs a correct patch from what I read " elsewhere ".

    Infos : http://xrecode.com/

I believe you need to enable keeping metadata?

Oups, then it is a good reason to not use them, for sure...

I don't know if I should be laughing or crying that you're doubting I did that or not
Of course I enabled keeping the metadata.

gave Pazera Free Audio Extractor a try and it didn't convert all the metadata to the new file.

I surely believe the way Serato writes the information for cue points or loops can't be converted to a new file, therefore I'm more than happy that Pro Audio Converter which @ClaudeBalls suggested works as far as having the same name behaviour in Serato.

And I'm not converting to mp3 anymore as @Xupito suggested. I'm only stripping the aac-file out of that mp4.

    unfortunately it doesn't :suicide:
    thanks for your effort tho!

I just gave this a test - on Win - converting some tagged files I have with fre:ac ( v1.1.6 ), this into mp3 and FLAC as examples. I checked the results with Mp3tag ( v3.14 ) and the tags present at the beginning are all there after / in those conversions too.

But so this is on Win.
