First off, it goes without saying that HUGE respect and gratitude goes to every single person and group involved in these releases.
From the producers to start with to R2R, to the uploaders and everyone else for without them we would not be able to try
them out.

Having said that, the only one that is of interest to me is the Hollywood series.

Hollywood brass looks interesting (mainly because it often pops up in lists of good soul/pop brass librarys)
but all the cinematic and soundtrack type things leave me cold as that is not my area of production.

 

I think R2R state somewhere they tend to release from cheap library.

 

Hollywood orchestral stuff and choirs.
Or just the oldie Symphonic Choirs with an usable Wordbuilder. Play, Opus, don't care.

Yeah, and this. The newer releases not available in Kontakt are almost all phrase-based, cinematic or however you name it.
So it's cool just not for me. I'm grateful anyways.

 

Disappointed in several of the gifts. Many samples themselves are really good, but a bit dated. The Player is VERY dated. I am surprised EW hasn't produced a better one, especially with the prices they are asking. Backup Singers, and Voices of Soul I will keep. Their Rompler plugs are extremely dated, and honestly, Triton Extreme is much better, lower in CPU, and drive space. I have total respect for all the suppliers and teams for this historic wave. Unfortunately, these huge gifts have stopped most of the flow of newer "smaller" plugins. The beauty of this is we get to finally test these monsters. The emergence of new teams has also broadened the horizon.

I am also saving for later. I did not get in on the Kontakt versions, so I can't compare. As I said above, I am keeping the Backup Singers, and the Voices of Soul, just because I can use them in what I do. Everyone has their own tastes, and their own uses. So, telling someone what to keep is only a single opinion. I will try the recent gift Ministry of Rock series, and a few other others already in the bank. The problem I've always had with developers like EW and UVI is their videos and example sound files make the product sound phenomenal, but when you get your hands on them, many times it's not what you expected. At least now we can test them and see what we do like, and report back.

Contrary to the above, I didn't request anything. I was making a comparison between these libraries and newer, smaller modeled plugs. So, if I was the one "off topic" or "making a request", I wasn't aware of it. Simply making a statement. If this post violates rules....take it down. But, I can refer to hundreds of other threads never touched for blatant requests and off topic discussions in the last six months.

I'm keeping so far Hollywood Backup Singers and Ministry of Rock.
It would be cool to compare Ra Kontakt vs Play @ArticStorm . Any volunteers? I'm lazy as fuck

 

The consensus online in forums and youtube seems to be that their diamond version of the Opus Hollywood Orchestra is their flagship and that without the diamond version, it is the same as any other. Many reviews say Opus diamond and the Spitfire BBC Orchestra are the two best. They are reviews though, each to their own. As for releases here, they are as good as any others. They do some things others do not and lack in other areas.

If R2R releases the diamond Opus you'll need a grunty machine with plenty of RAM and plenty of space on an SSD.

They're exactly the same, except the Kontakt one is smaller (and can be made smaller still with Rollerball's tutorial) and the GUI is different.

 

I have BBC Pro, it is truly magnificent (I did sent a message to mods about sharing to teams but didn’t get anything back), and like I said in my earlier post, I do think the volume of stuff EW have done that is older isn’t up to the same standard as some of the newer libraries, and I have been disappointed with the EW stuff in comparison to what I have with Kontakt, but I probably haven’t given them a full and proper chance or tried to incorporate within a piece where they would be suited. EW used to be the gold standard, but maybe they tried to cover too many bases and those that specialise in certain things (Spitfire for orchestral and hybrid orch, Toontrack for drums / Ez tools etc…) do it better now? Or maybe the fact that the Play interface just seems a bit clunky, people don’t gel with it the same? Clearly their stuff is used by lots of people, so it’s not garbage, but maybe it isn’t what it once was?

 

Which is exactly what I was saying. I love what the teams are doing, and totally understand why people have been drooling for years to get these monsters. But, so much advancement has been pulling away from these huge libraries. Just the Swam plugs themselves have completely changed the face of vst strings, woodwinds, and brass with very little hit on CPU, and sound great. I still intend to experiment with EW, as long as my ssd can handle it.

Nobody truly needs any of them if they do not write with them all of the time..but having them for a random project is not a bad thing.

The East West Opus is a far more comprehensive player. It is PLAY on steroids. Each library shines that much more on it. The Orchestrator for Opus orchestra also does not show up in PLAY. The microphone control, FX and too much to list are limited in PLAY. The libraries all work though.

The Pro Drums are interesting though. I like Toontrack as my goto but for people who are meticulous in semi-reality, they recorded the drums like hitting a tom once and the difference when hit immediately after because they are different in sound. One is cold the second is slightly different. Most people are not that fussy though. I tossed up between the two being BBC and EW. The Steinway and Bosendorfer pianos are great, beautifully balanced across the entire spectrum. Like all new libraries now, they are all becoming exceptionally space-hungry.

Both EW and Spitfire need a fast drive and RAM. Most issues are avoided by that

That'll do it Mines a bit less - 10th gen, 96GB RAM, 35TB HDD (NAS) and only 4TB SSD unfortunately. I need more SSD's... they are coming down in price. It would be nice if the GPU's did. People underestimate the necessity in a DAW for grunty GPU's, they think they're all for gaming and data mining but a DAW runs more smoothly when it has plenty of GPU power.

 

I hate you all for not having a pc that holds a walking cane and has a deep gutteral farts every time it takes a step.
Lmao I'm just kidding, envy was never a part of me. I'm happy for you dudes! Maybe one day I can have my first leet pc too.

 

Monitor Ebay and you local trading online sites. Look for PC's around 6 months old. Every so often for some reason there is a good one as either an unwanted gift or from a spoiled child whose rich Daddy purchased the latest and greatest to keep their child happy, so they sell it off to get rid of it. Start saving and in about 6 months look hard and I am sure you will get a good one. You'd be surprised how many appear randomly.
