Apparently, I’ve just read that tomorrow on Thursday 2 November 2023, Beatport are about to release Beatport Studio, which is their new DAW. Considering their DJ app, electronic genre focus, ownership of apps like Loopcloud, sample library company Loopmasters, as well as plugin retailer Plugin Boutique, it could be interesting if they get it right.

Seems like MusicTech published a story that now just has a 404 error, assuming due to Beatport embargo on it and MusicTech letting the cat out the bag early and the getting their knuckles slapped maybe?

Anybody else know anything about this?

As much as I'd love for it to be some unique amazing new DAW focused on electronic music creation, ya lost me at online "cloud-based DAW". That and a subscription service? Nah, hard pass. Hope im wrong, but doubt it.

This is a pretty appalling offering. As Cubase LE is an option, I’m guessing they were due to release sooner but then had to hold back for Steinberg to sort out the store issues to be able to then include Cubase in this Beatport Studio subscriptions.

overall though, it’s a pretty awful subscription offer. I’m not anti subscription and believe they have their place, mainly in reducing the bar of entry for new, young, or more financially challenged music makers, which can only be a good thing, as well as to provide opportunities to trial before buying perpetual licenses.

however, the Bitwig 8 and Cubase LE are seriously limited for any serious music making. Add to that the fact it’s only 10 plugins and 100 samples, you are in no way going to be prolific and will outgrow this within 3 months, even if starting from scratch. They should have at least added a more pro tier with full Bitwig or Cubase, more plugins, and more samples, and it may then have made sense and provided a progression path, allowing new people to start on the lower tier before upgrading when they outgrow it.

As it stands, this just seems like a pretty awful subscription and I can’t imagine many people taking it up.

Maybe it will get some "Executive" fired. It should, because that's how bad it is. I knew it would be bad, and had typed up a post to that effect. But then I decided against posting it, and to just wait and see. It's worse than anything I had even guessed. After the Dan Worrall Mixbus video "response"; I thought maybe those Harrison guys might be looking to stick a different name on "their daw".

The world needs a Next Level cloud based subscription plan for freeware.
Wouldn't you pay 19 bucks a month to stay connected to a Next Level
subscription scheme? As a bonus they could send out a monthly newsletter with a random obsolete DX plugin.

Usually you can still have an idea of the target audience, customer/user base of something like this. Like Loopcloud or Splice. But who could possibly want to sign up for this thing? The DAW options are what you would get free by buying a $100 audio interface. Whoever came up with this idea should start hiding under their desk at work.

Yukk. You can easily get everything that you need to produce/mix using freeware on the web.

I'm sure they have a really great customer service department. It's like leasing a car, if any obsolete or shareware plugin goes bad, you better hope you saved the link . Beatport name guarantees quality and great service and artist support.
