Im blown away. I love Skrillex. If you hate "dubstep", give this a listen anyways. Its creative, all over the place sonically. Its a mixtape more than it is an "album". I believe its a collection of older unreleased songs, with some newer songs sprinkled in.

Skrillex is a real one. I remember the first time i heard him. I loosely knew "Sonny" irl through From First to Last, but hadn't known what he was up to recently. I was partying at Jay Gordon's house, of Orgy fame (lol), and he was like "guys, you gotta hear this music my friend Sonny gave me", and took us down to the studio, and played Skrillex's Alejandro remix, and one other one i forgot. Its funny, as listening back on it now, it sounds terrible, but at the time it was mind blowing. Not a week later, i went to Dim-Mak or Cinespace or something, and there was Skrillex, playing to 200 people or something, with a laptop and a controller. From that point on it was the wildest, fastest rise to stardom ive ever witnessed. I mean, this dude was headlining major festivals not a year later.

Ive seen him play probably 100 times at this point, and its always fun. From super lame industry after hours in LA, to headline set's at Coachella and EDC, open format pop and trap sets, Burning Man set's with diplo, just everywhere. Every setting, he just knows what to play. A true DJ, who knows what to do and when. A gifted understanding of music that is allotted to a chosen few.

Many years passed since i hung out with him, and one year after a festival in Vegas. I was backstage chilling with some friends, and a friend was like "hey sonny", and skrillex came over, they were catching up, and then he looked at me, and was like "hey, Shinyzen, how are you". I mean, it had been a decade plus since i had interacted with him in person, and even those times had been just a few. He was HUGE at this point, already having the justin beiber singles etc. yet he still remembered me, went out of his way to chat me up, and then took us all back to his hotel room, where we smoked some weed and he showed us some WIP's. A genuine person, kind, compassionate and just chill. Ive hung out with a TON of this caliber artist, working with many, and meeting and hanging with many backstage at festivals and shows. Very few have Skrillex's kindness and authenticity, most are absolute ego-centric pricks.

Ok, rant over, thanks for coming to my Skrillex Ted Talk. Listen to the album. Listen as loud as possible, from start to finish. Protect Skrillex at all costs.

never followed him too much, my traditional studies and culture is very-VERY far from that music approach, but as I always do with geniuses I try to undesrstand whats the artistry behind certain works. So I will give a spin at this work as I did somehow in the past

    thanks for sharing

I can always appreciate skills of a genius producer, love to see Virtual Riots production videos also, but unfortunately I really can't relate to the music too much.

Flume did an insane mixtape as well:

So true he's a real one! and just like you said, he's one the few huge artists that is humble and cool. Ive had the pleasure to dj after him and he was very kind and even went to the dance floor while I was playing. It's not really my kind of music but always check his stuff as consider him a very creative producer with his sample selection/sound design/mixing/etc. This "album" seems to have very old tracks and some new bits, got to check it

I remember before skrillex came along, the industry or community didn't use the word 'LUFS' and didn't care what it was. Every engineer or musician struggles to achieve that kind of loudness and makes sonic advancements. The influence he had on this music history is incredible.

If this comment is actually serious, it is a good example of correlation vs causation.

Fun story about him: I was just chillin' in my bedroom when I was staying in South America, and all of a sudden, a colleague sent me a pic with Skrillex. I was intrigued. He said, "Look who I found. He says he's gonna improvise a set." So, Skrillex showed up out of the blue downtown in the middle of the street, without any notice, and performed an impromptu set for a small crowd. Then, he just went on his way, doing whatever he usually does. It wasn't a tour, there was nothing going on, he just showed up. He's legit.

I listened to this for the first time I dig it !! I remember Sonny from - From First To Last i think i was in like 6th grade lol (my screamo / emo days).
sounds like quite a few of the tracks were slight variations of former songs i recognized quite a few. a lot of good in the new album i dont really listen t "dubstep" much if at all anymore (its good in small doses every now n then) but im alwaays game for listening to what Skrillex is creating
Thats the shit. easy to tell hes a genuine badass dude..super cool he remembered you so many years later...he is a fucking legend and ive only heard nothing but positive whenever hes brought up . im pumped for his new music projects in the near future since hes moving on from atlantic records? he can create any style he wants cuz he is a musical genius...thats a dope story tho and awesome memory for you!
