Coming from FL Studio, my workflow is based around being able to trigger wav drum samples, and other samples, via midi input. However, plugins like Geist, Battery, etc, are all aimed towards a "Drum Machine" feel, while I'm looking for a single plugin to focus on a single sound, leaving a small memory and cpu footprint. Is there any such VST out there, or is there something in Reaper that can do this already?

You can do routing with this just like any other daw and then save the template. There is a READRUMS multi-track template on the stash.reaper.fm. Its just like having drum rack in ableton or drum machine in bitwig. What this does it allows you to have one midi to write your drums but still give you separate mixer channels to individually eq/process your stuff.

I was looking into this same question but figured REA5K out and its really all you need...

ableton lite has simpler built in included, very easy to use, it also has two drumsamplers similar to native machine, for 20 bucks on ebay and you rewire the cables

if you want to use a vst... One Small Clue's Poise might work for you...

Reaper's great included tools may work just as well too

Not a "one shot sampler" per se, but an awesome sampler none-the-less: Vember Shortcircuit 2 (and 1) VSTi.
Freeware that blows most commercial samplers out of the water (made by Claes, who founded Bitwig):

You can still use it to load just one sample :)

I know what you're looking for and it's not typical samplers. although if you're looking for multi-samples, what others have suggested are best ones.
You want a one-shot trigger like FL sampler channel or Ableton simpler. (I think Logic has one too)

EDIT: check out 112db Morgana! it's actually an 8-bit sampler trying to emulate the feel of 80's classics but it is simple and has a useful cross-platform sampling technology called SampLink, that is now dead unfortunately. (Tip: turn off the amp if you don't need the retro feel)

Which one do you prefer, Baxter? I still prefer SC 1.1.2 to 2

I prefer Shortcircuit 2. Mainly because I've gotten used to it and know what I can do with it, which is alot. The only problem is the waveform zoom in/out and such, which is not really working. But I can live with that.
