    My man, I feel ya'.
I use my Win10 laptop for surfing and downloading, testing, and renaming/tagging/organizing crap, and even with that fairly lite bit of usage (forget trying to run a DAW while fighting all of the ever-mounting memory/CPU loads, and expolorer crashing every hour, or so,) it's always about half-taxed by the background garbage that is unkillable.
....but Saturday, Win10 got pissed that I hadn't been near WiFi in a while and, because of that, I was about a couple weeks behind on my scheduled Defender update (I'll skip the tirade on *that useless bit of software......guh,) and all of a sudden the "reminders" to update basically started popping u every few minutes. And then? The antimalware in the background and the host DCOM began steadily climbing until they were using about 90%+ of my memory. Nothing worked, as far as bringing down their usage (and I'm tech-savvy; PCs are not new or strange to me....and, yes, I also tried restarting my computer,) and I finally packed up my laptop, drug it over to a friends and updated it, in hopes of satiating the ever-ravenous Win10. Long story short? The updates calmed it a bit but, with nothing running but background "essentials," it's at about 15% CPU usage and 45% memory....which is about where it's been at from the very beginning, so things are back to the shitty norm that is Win10.
Oh, and if one more person tells me that it's "easy" to optimize/reconfigure Win10 to work with audio, or to work properly at all,, and then gives me a grocery list of crap that I have to do, I'm gonna start breakin knees. Seriously--three extra steps are too many; it's a computer; it's supposed to do what I tell it to do, when I tell it to do something, not give me the royal runaround. I'm not paying for a service that dictates what I can and cannot do. If I want to Burn It All Down, I should be able to (after a couple warnings of the ramifications of I'm about to do.)
My favorites? Win10: "Do you want to proceed with Action #1?" Me: "No." Win10: "Windows will proceed with option #1, as 'No' is not a valid answer." Then why did you even ask?!?! or, Me: "Don't restart during these hours." Win10 (some hours later:) "We have seen that you requested to be left alone during these hours but we're going to do it anyway because fuck you." Me: "Excuse me....what?" Win10: "You heard us....suck it."
Okay, so the last bit was a *bit hyperbolic, but it's not a real longshot to imagine that one day, the Windows OS will just disregard you with a quick flip of the bird.
Another of my new favorites is when I try and open a .jpg., .png, etc., it tells me that it can't start the application because there's information missing/corrupt/not-installed, or some such ridiculousness. I mean, I guess my .jpg/.png *could have a bust .dll, somewhere.....
And people wonder why I still use Win7Ult..... :chilling:

Try getting Stardock. It gives you the (almost) identical Win7 interface.
    Take Ownership, will unlock EVERYTHING.
My daughter found it hard to believe that I wasn't using Win 7.

@WillyA Are you saying to "take ownership" comma "because it will unlock everything".
Or have you misused the comma, and Take Ownership is an app or something?

I put off installing Win1o until Studio One v5 came along. Win10 Interface, spyware telemetry, every damn thing just sucks, but a bit of research works wonders. Fortunately, I've been working with computers, since the days of punch cards.

Upgrading from Win7 does NOT work. You must have a clean install. Then you just need Stardock, Take Ownership, W10Privacy and it really IS easy (eXACT_Beats, you can come and try to break my legs anytime pal - better bring a couple of your mates as well.)

Install a nice clean fresh up-to-date version, install Stardock and setup your Win7 interface. Install Take Ownership, start it on the root of C:\. It will run for a LONG time. Now install W10 Privacy. Check EVERY box.

Last go to services and turn off all the shit you don't need, especially Windows Updates. If you have a fancy sound card that doesn't have W10 drivers, either buy a new one OR bin it and install ASIO4ALL Sort out the screen resolution, Install Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control. Block anything left that tries to "call home". It will never reboot unless you tell it to.

If doing that is too difficult for you, you shouldn't be owning a computer at all.

Yeah, I'm 80 in April next year and I can still Bench Press 140 Kgs, and still play my guitar and thank God, I still have enough brains to be able to look for answers without having my hand held.

Oh and I'm cantakerous as well.

But you never learnt about the comma.
This can be read as a command, with an affirmation after a comma.
We all live and learn every day.
For the second time: no need to be rude! Implying I don't have brains etc. Chill out!
    Your fault due to writing.
You just don't know what you don't know regards grammar.
It's fine. At least now I know how to decipher your writing.
And I worked it out myself! I'm a big boy!

    copycat edit:
Oh and I'm pedantic as well! :)

Whenever I see those threads about Windows on AS, I quickly grab some hot popcorn and put on my 3D glasses to read cause it's always a shit storm at about sea level tirade against Microsoft. From the paranoia, the hate, to the people who think they so more above the rest with a Hackintosh... Oh my gosh! It's a drama piece worth savoring!

Now, back to my popcorn and LOL fest!

I have to say that I agree with the OP. It came on my laptop......I had no choice of buying it without an OS. It was to be used on the road and for banking. Turning off updates appeared to work but on this version anyway it would turn itself back on sneakily. My internet connection at home is slow (2Mb) and I would have to fire it up a good hour before I needed it otherwise it was unusable. I ditched it finally and put on linux mint. Worked perfectly from the word go. No driver problems or difficulty learning to drive it and a nice secure feeling when banking. I do however use win 10 LTSC on my studio PC which has been fine.
