Just stop the windows update service. No way to filter the updates unfortunately.

IT Philosophy if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have seen disasters in upgrades and patches breaking stuff.

Yes I understand that. I live right across the street from the store so I go in there all the time. He actually directed me away from a sale by telling me not to buy Win 10 after I told him I had an unofficial copy of 7. Also told me I didn't need a graphics card since I'm only using my PC for music which saved me another $150 or so. lol. And I agree most of them are mostly sales people 1st, knowledgeable 2nd, but there's always that 1 guy in the Computer Components dept that knows his sh*t.

Thanks for the correction. I did not know that obviously. That is really weird about Win 10 that they have end dates.

    It's not an Stupid comment...
    I think it's a great parenthesys:
    Macintosh vs Windows, you know...
But Anyhow (bastly explained by many members here on AS), quality and stability in Mac, is far beyond Windows (yet).
And I am a Windows/Linux user since 1990 (just saying...), and once you work on OSX, you never forget that experience, mostly a positive one!

Indeed, Apple products are horribly expensive. But they have proved how far people can go, no matter the money, for using OSX, IOS, or just appearing to society "how cool you are"... But for this case, THE ART OF MUSIC, the musicians, audio producers, you name it, Mac is the (less painful and stable) way to go. Mainly using a beast like a MacPro!

    It's just my opinion,
    not the ultimate truth!

My laptop has been on Win10 64bit for a while running Maschine and VSTs... no problems at all. I am going upgrade my studio computer soon as well. Running Cubase, Wavelab and Maschine and UAD. I hear and read no problems. Waited on purpose and tested my laptop first because of that.

BTW, I acquired a MacPro 2010 model (2x2,4GHz Xeon/14GB RAM/ATI RADEON 5770 1GB/1TB WD @7200RPM/512GB SSD Crucial MX-100) using a Focusrite 2i2; and don't know what to do with my windows laptop (Samsung Chronos 7: I5/8GBRAM/NVIDIA630M/128GB SSD), with the dylemma of downgrading to Win7x64, because of the weird behavior of graphic drivers on this machine! (running Win10Prox64 iwth all updates installed and unnecesary apps removed using PowerShell). Once I resolve this dylemma, I want to know how to do "farming" (IDK if it's the right term) in beetween my MacPro and my Chronos 7 PC.

Thinks in this case, seems equal in between Win 7 and Win10, because of the drivers and BIOS for this machine.
So my opinion, would be, think in your internal and external hardware, and you will know the answer.
I even dream ith some kind of Windows "Music Production" flavor (like in Linux UbuntuStudio)!
Maybe be I am ignoring this already existing flavor?

Definitely Windows 10. Fast, reliable and soon updated with a complete new and very fast audio stack which provides much lower CORE latency audio performance. Search YouTube or the Internet for Windows 10 future development if you don't believe me.
I'm on Windows 10, Intel I7 4790K CPU (no overclock), SSD's, Presonus Studio One 3.2, Cubase 8. It's running like hell, ultra fast, never any blue screens and no performance issues whatsoever. I'm a lucky guy I suppose? Cheers....

I guess in the end it’s up to the OP. Due to system incompatibilities on my end I didn’t upgrade, but that’s just my specific configuration. I say give it a test run, maybe do a dual boot configuration, make some music with it and see. Everyone will always have different opinions just like everyone has their own unique set up. Please let us know how it goes Beth?

Can’t Wait till I can afford to get an SSD rotong☺. I’ve seen how it dramatically decreases boot times.

Windows 10 is fast because its chowing memory and cpu resources that your plugins and DAW could be using instead. DUH!

Screw Win10, getting an SSD is the best upgrade Ive ever done, I just bought a second one. I got a new 128g SSD for my OS C: and now my old 64g SSD Projects D: is for working projects. I use the collect and save feature in my DAW to get all the audio there. Once its completed I move it to the old spinny drives.

I experimenting with W10 on VMWare machine, trying new stuff etc...
System as system is ok, stable, fine... but one thing I don't like it and that is every startup/shutdown "Do not shut down windows is updating..." then next two starts are ok without updates.
It's a great thing for system itself, but you must be prepared for constantly updating and background processing, and I don't find option to turn off updates, I believe it's impossible in W10 (not 100% sure) - so just pull-out lan cable :)
At the end, we must make move to W10 after some time, because of support, software compatibility, etc... Someday it will be possible to use Cubase 10 or Live 15 only if you have W10.
I used WXP and never think about moving to Windows 7 until I try to install latest Sibelius 7 (I think), and I got message: "You can run this software only on Windows Vista/7 and later OS" :)
