Should I anticipate that the studio session will end with mixing and mastering completed?

I'm going to a recording studio to make a rap song. I simply do the vocals, and I have the beat's stems. According to the studio I'm considering, mixing and mastering are done during the session with an engineer. Since this is my first time, I want to reserve 4 hours for 2 tracks, however I'm unclear about the mixing and mastering process. It has often taken a couple of days for the engineers I've worked with to complete mixing and mastering a track for me. I am aware that they are not working on my track nonstop (obviously working with other people, taking breaks, living life). But the time difference seems so great.

if it was some kind of proposition bet, "Can this be done in 4 hours, 2 songs from stems, vocals recorded, edited, mixed, mastered in 4 hours?" with the work being equal quality. I would be taking the under. My money would be on "hell no, that is not what will happen". :guru:

You are going to have a mic in one hand and a stopwatch in the other :)

Do you want your two tracks to sound like they were tracked, edited, mixed and mastered in 4 hours (and presumably, all by the same engineer)? Then yes.

Do you want your two tracks to sound good? Then no.

Fuck no, if it's your first time in a studio you can probably record one rap song in 4 hours

''I'm going to a recording studio'' - Don't expect anything other than being recorded..... Expect mix and masterng if you have paid for it before you get there
