Yesterday I was looking for news about decent VST(audio) over LAN solution, but I can't find anything.

Steinberg released new VSTConnect, there is an option in VEP (but we don't have VEP :)) and there is a Reaper with REAstream etc...

From the old solutions I can find only FXTeleport, but it's too old to run with x64 machines and there is no MacOSX support.

As I have MacBook Pro with good (enough) resources, I have idea to share some kontakt libreies over TCP/IP, maybe Giga sampler and few more things, just to release some power of my PC.

    Anyone have some idea's and solution's ?

It will be nice if Kontakt has server support, run standalone on 192.168.1.10 and load bunch of libraries, and on the main DAW machine 192.168.1.1 just add kontakt_remote.dll and point to audio and midi channel :) I don't know why do they not release this feature ?!! Kontakt is a main plugin on every computer on planet, and the numbers of libraries just grove, as the count of libraries, as the tons of gigabyte's.

I dont know anything about networking but i'm sure i've seen topics on people linking pcs over ethernet and being able to sync them. Would this give you what you need?

REAPER has built-in ReaMote to share CPU power across network. Very very useful feature, though I never tested it in action *yes*
Should work flawlessly on 1Gbps LAN (Cat6 cables).
There's whole wiki chapter on Cockos: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaMote

to buy a used car or VEP !? question is now !

yes, as I said REAconnect, REAstream etc... only limitation is you must use Reaper on both sides

Why reaper not develop just vst plugin for connect :) On the slave we have Reaper with Kontakt, on the master we use anything.
Ofcourse, it can be used as per example

    Master:
Live + Reaper rewire (with rea functionality)

    Slave:
    Reaper with Kontakt

but this idea limitless by a porn *yes*

I use Vienna Ensemble Pro on Mac. Mbpro to MacPro. I also use on macbook pro by itself sometimes also and it really does save cpu power and allow for more vst instrument instances.

How far apart are the 2 machines?

I had kontakt running on one machine, as a standalone, with just a midi cable connection and a spdif connection running back with the audio.Worked fine.

You can also use rtpMIDI to run midi over a network, i think it's free as well.

If you can deal with 32bit, Plasq Wormhole is available for free now on Mac and Windows. There's a google project (search for "wormhole2").

But, inspired from Willum, there's another nice solution that is totally independent from LAN:
iConnectivity iConnectMIDI2+. I use it, it's a fantastic little device that will allow you to route audio and midi between two machines. It has two USB ports and will appear as an audio and midi interface on both machines, and what you send on one machine will be available at the other machine and vice versa. As if this wasn't enough, you can even connect an iPad and it's one of the very few devices that support *CHARGING* of the iPad while in use.
BTW, Latency is considerably lower than any LAN-based solution.

You can still use REAPER IN your current DAW through ReWire and add FX on slave machine

I see you considered that, I'll just welcome myself in non-readers club

i live in hong kong and here you can buy VEP5 licenses one by one. If anyone needs I can help out (you would only need 1 license for this situation)

    Hi,

I have connected 2 PC's via Crossover Cable. PC "A" saves Libraries on HDD and PC "B" using Kontakt should load everything from PC "A".

I shared the whole Partition with Libraries on PC "A" via Advanced Sharing with "User". When I load this Partition on PC "B" I have to login with "User" and can read, write, start, copy, delete everything I want. So Connection is good. But when I start Kontakt on PC "B", it doesn't show the Partition from PC "A" even though "show network drives" is activated.

Anyone who knows how to show PC "A" Drive/Folder in PC "B" Kontakt?

    Really I don't know, 5.3.1 it's buggy, I'll stick with the 5.3.0 6464 because of batch/resave.

Ok, anyone test ReaMote ? I try with windows/macosx machines with no success.

Start Reamote and reaper on mac - ok

Enable remote on Win machine, preferences - reamote -> search, and it find my mac machine and says Connected ok.

When I try to add some fx, message "could not add DSP, spire (per example)" on my win machine.

    -----------------------
    Lately I found info:
when using ReaMote you must have identical setup on both machines, same plugins and fx, so I you want to use Sylenth per example, you must have Sylent on slave and host machine, identical, identical version etc...
