Hello, I make a new DAW and in the past Serum cracks was buggy but Vital is free, ... at the same time there is more presets avaible for Serum I think and I also make good basses with Serum!
Which is the best for stability? Did the new serum released perform better with protection?

R2R / RET cracks of Serum are rocksolid here (with Reaper). Maybe your DAW is causing these probs?

you can rent to own Serum on splice if you really need it that bad.

i think both Vital and Serum are awsome to have synths.

I've tortured @r4e's version like hell, solid as a rock (WiN7, Reaper).

...well, in my basement dungeon, I've sated a long list of arcane sexual perversions with @r4e's Serum release and have to say that it has borne its illicit subterranean subjugation without complaint & without selling me out to the authorities... really, what more could one ask? Indeed, i was going to mail Xfer Records and ask them to rename it spermum but my keyboard was too sticky.

Don´t forget, there is also Phase Plant, a very underrated synth, imho.
It has seemingly unlimited options for modulating sounds and is not limited to only 2 Wavetables like Serum. For example, you could have 5 different Wavetables, 2 Sample Layers, and a noise generator in one patch. And you also can use the Kilohearts Snap-In FX modules in it. So, you have many possibilites for modulation and FX, as long as you and your CPU can handle it.
The only downsides are first the lack of Presets and Soundbanks available for Phase Plant, as there are massive amounts for Serum, and second ,the granular module (Rapid has one of the best granular synthesis imo). But if you want to make your own sounds, Phase Plant still is a quite versatile Synth for that.
And, it is also rent-to-own on Splice, like Serum.
Speaking of Kilohearts, if you want to try out Loopcloud, you can get an offer for 2 Months for 2$ and you will get "Kilohearts Snap-Heap" for free.
    Link to the offer:

    :mates:

    Edit:
On a side note, there are of course other synths like Avenger and Rapid which also are very versatile with their modulation,fx, etc.

No problem here with sister site Serum.

As a side note, i prefer Serum engine sound to Vital.
YES, they don't sound the same, even with the same wavetable.
I compared enough presets from different ppl to know it is not my ears.

Serum all the way (for now) !!!

Serum's preset browser is kind of annoying.

I actually prefer Vital these days.

I like Serum's UI more functionally. Vital's looks prettier, but Serum is much more compact and leads to me having a much quicker workflow. Soundwise, Vital can make more experimental sounds with its spectral stuff. Whilst I like Serum, I can't recommend it these days when Vital is so, so similar & free.

I've been having a really weird issue with Serum. I'm using TeamCubeaDooby version 1.363, and the issue is that sound in it gets disabled very very frequently if I adjust some parameters while sound is playing. It's almost like it disables due to very high volume, but that's nowhere near the case. I have to change preset to something else in order for the sound to return.

For that note, I wouldn't recommend the TCD version of Serum. I have never had any issues with R2Rs or RETs.

I'm not looking for a link or anything, but is there a R2R/RET/r4e release for 1.363 or later (not sure what latest version of Serum is)? Of course these disappear from the sister site / audionews super quickly due to takedowns.

As far as the op question, I really like both Serum and Vital. Both are great in their own right, and it's hard to believe Vital is free, for the most part. I share all my wavetables between the two.

There were like...4 revisions of Serum by TCD all due to protection issues. The last one iirc worked fine, but it might be hard to find. I just use the last release by r4e which is 1.35b1

Yah all of them are pretty hard to find now, due to quick takedowns :) Pretty much have to be refreshing the sister site somewhat regularly to catch it as it arrives... I can probably wait until the next release though and just avoid Serum for a bit. I think if I've saved any tracks with 1.363 with some tweaking to the parameters it might complain about the version being too old if I were to install an older Serum and load the track. Not entirely sure though.

I had amazing sex with Serum, the best I ever had by a country mile with any VSTI in my life (Sylenth was a close second), but unfortunately my doctor told me that I now have gonorrhea and he gave me a 500 mg intramuscular shot of ceftriaxone.. You'd better go check yourself out with your M.D. Sorry for the bad news. I've already contacted Steve Duda who is halting distribution as to inject some code to fix the problem before it spreads any more through the community.

Looks like our russian friends got it, but I can't tell which one is using which crack/patch/keygen, sorry. It's not named as such so there's only "1.36b3", whatever that means. Some older versions as well, so it's probably a good idea to pick several and see what works.

Just as a heads up.. the 1.36b3 on the "russian friends" appears to be the TCD one I've got that has issues. So I'd avoid that. It doesn't mention anything about a revision in the post, so maybe TCD never fixed it. Grab something else by RET, R2R or r4e.

I don't know if anyone else is having the issue though.. but the TCD version is the only one I've ever had that issue in.

Thank you @Lois Lane! Yup, those oscillating thrills are alas so fleeting, whereas a heavy VST STI could be for life...
From here on in, I'll play safe and hammer relentlessly on my home organ intead.

Normally I do not even care about GUI appearances. But for a Waldorf product, this one is bad enough to skip a free download.

Imagine the poor souls who bought waves codex for the full $200 :snuffy:
I suppose they can still get some use out of it. But then again, you can get use out of the hundreds of free synths on plugins4free with similar quality

The waveform display looks so bad. It looks like a CGI tech demo from the 90's
    upload_2023-7-25_21-1-31.png
Not entirely sure on this, but the intense banding makes it look like it uses Gouraud shading, which was the predecessor to phong shading which phased it out by the late 90's, which itself has since all but been phased out by blinn-phong. It's hard to tell since it's most apparent in motion in which it produces temporal aliasing, but I digress.
What matters is the sound I suppose :dunno:

I'd like to add that this is the same company that made this eyecandy, so they've definitely improved!
