So I just went from an iMac running High Sierra to a MacBook Pro running Big Sur (intel i5, not the m1). I transferred over everything from my iMac (mostly cracked plugins). I wanted to upgrade to a legit copy of logic but couldn't cause I was limited by my iMac OS, hence the MBP. Most of the plugins still work although a few have given me trouble. This post is specifically talking about Serum. It was working fine before the transfer and logic upgrade but now crashes it immediately (I am mad I didn't try opening it in logic before I upgraded from logic 10.4 to the new paid copy of the newest version). Ive tried a couple different copies of Serum with no luck. It seems some of the plug ins that don't work have something to do with the fact I came from High Sierra (32 bit) to Big Sur (64 bit) but I am not convinced that is the issue with serum. Any help is appreciated!

Just reinstall it again.
You are are on a different hardware with different machine ID.
If you had made a bootable clone and installed Big Sur on top, it may have worked.
The thing is, a lot of things aren't cracked yet for Big Sur.

It's nothing to do with Logic versions.

simplify things. forget any details about your prior installation. the most current legit version is v1.34b1.

The most recent scene release is Xfer.Records.Serum.Full.v1.334.MacOS-MORiA. There is a forum post I looked up which mentions use of a Keygen from a Russian site with that release. I can pm you a link should you not be able to find it yourself.
I am a legit user so I cannot (and won't) test anything. I am also all for "Try before Buy", but Serum is a reasonable price, continues to be updated by the dev, and awesome. You should really just buy it, it's a lot less of a headache than using often half-ass scene releases.

 

I was wondering if machine ID had something to do with it, but I have tried reinstalling from a couple different cracks and both crash immediately. I have been contemplating going back to Catalina cause I had heard some cracks might not work on Big Sur, so this might be the final nail in the coffin for me.

Oh, I thought high Sierra was the last 32bit version, whoops (I am a PC guy for everything but Logic)

I didn't mean to state it that way, yes Logic is 200 and includes all future updates still, thank goodness! Thanks for your input as well.

Right. So I'd say it's because there were no cracks, or perhaps more importantly installers?, yet for Big Sur.
But I was lucky in that going forward with a bootable clone that I install OS over, Serum still worked for me.
So I stayed where you were at until I do get new hardware.
Then all the fun will begin again! lol.

edit: Oh, so you were able to install it but it crashes Logic.
Go into Plugin Manager and see if you can check the box for the plugin and rescan.
Or maybe you need to codesign or deep codesign the plugin. code-sign.

Haven't you yet been stopped from installing third party plugins?
Didn't you need to disable SIP, or can your allow 3rd party installs, when stopped, via System Preferences/Security & Privacy?
Like, after a plugin installer is denied to open, one used to be able to go into where I said, and there will be an Allow Anyway button for the last thing that was denied...

google and get Codesigner, Permissions Reset 2, and BatChmod. they will make stuff easier for you not really being a "Mac user".The plugin is not crashing your Logic, it is the AU Validation tool.

If you are running this type of stuff, prevent "Calls Home" by editing your Hosts file. You can use the "firewall" application LuLu to also block these. Others will recommend Little Snitch, which is great. But LuLu is free and effective enough for this purpose.

I do not have an M1 and therefore I do not find any point in updating my MBP past Mojave. Logic 10.6 upgrade is not really an important one to me. 10.5 is, because of the changes in regards to Ultrabeat, Drum Machine Designer, the addition of the Step Sequencer, and a few other changes. Catalina imho, is a basically pointless "upgrade" to me, as I prefer the TI Virus Control Plugin functioning audio/midi running over USB correctly much more desirable than anything to be found in Catalina.

Versions of Serum get deleted on AZ quite quickly due to DMCA takedown requests. You can easily find what is the most current version by looking at the UPAWG Release Log and then search for info on the specific scene release you try using.

 

Ya, on most of the plug-ins I had to manually one by one allow thru security preferences when one got denied to allow it, then rescan and it would open fine. I get what you're saying about the clone, I might try that route and just upgrade to Mojave or Catalina. I need to do a bit more research into codesign and what the guy below mentioned. Thanks for your help.

Well maybe, but we can't really be sure.
It is very probable though by the sounds of it.
He didn't say if Logic failed to boot during boot and scan, or if Serum crashed an open Logic project.
Which is why I mentioned to see what it said in Plugin Manager, and recheck the box if poss.
