You can guarantee an argument if you mention UAD2 or Acustica Audio.

    1973-Pre,Comp FET-76,bx_console SSL 4000 G,bx_console N, bx_megasingle,Chandler GAV19T,ENGL E765 RT,Vertigo VSC-2,Pianoteq 6 STAGE,MODO BASS,Addictive Drums 2,TridA-Pre etc...

seen a guy on youtube daisychaining 4 uad boxes (2 quad 2 octo) just to be able to run a normal session and run 60-80 plugins. that's $4000 only !! wow ! what a bargain !

Fudsey Plange : There weren't any UAD DSP cards in the nineties. I never said "uad"!!

Fudsey Plange : Also, what value have computers lost, that were sold in the nineties?

None... only gained. thank you for proving my point. UAD, or other dsp cards do not hold the weight they once did. That's why next to nobody makes them. whats the sence when native is always unlocking more power and DSP cards are stagnant.

This debate seems to be divided between those who own a UA Apollo and Satellite and those who don't. Oddly those who don't seem to think they know more about the topic. Personally, I am happy to have 12 dedicated cores working offline while my Mac gets on with other tasks.

All he did was trying to sell his hardware and there was no need to dis his product and his price as the first comment to it

  8. What you actually said was...

Your comment elides a statement about UAD cards with a statement about DSP cards. You can equivocate all you like.

The value of a 2001 era 800MHz Intel Celeron Windows XP compliant computer, with PCI bus (not PCIe), USB 1.1 ports, 20Gb main drive, is today maybe 99c for the Celeron. The value of a UAD-1 card is $99.

  9. bx_console SSL 4000 E or bx_console SSL 4000 G? You do realise that I'm going to perform a stress test on your claim?

  10. The problem is that UAD can't be cracked, so they can never have it. It's a desperate need to feel adequacy.

I've been trying to stay clear of controversy lately, but those who have an SSL channel in their cracked Waves don't understand the difference between that and an SSL Channel strip in Unison in a UAD setup. It's not cracked, it needs hardware to operate, so they think it's an elitists tool. And there are countless people here who overlay that elitist view onto mastering hardware. They think Ozone gives just as good a result. I think some of these people would die of fright if they left their bedroom studio and went into Ocean Way and heard what professional tools sound like.

You give a negative comment and then you complain to receive a negative answer. That's called debate mate. And regarding UAD, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. I can run at least 8 of the most CPU hungry plugin which are the 480L Reverb, Fender 55 or the Culture Vulture (on one card and i have 2)... And 300 of the least hungry ones who are still excellent.

Those who like facts not rants will like to read this to know what they can expect with an Octo board with 8 DSPs

Starting to think you're right. This is frustration talking. Not logic.

UAD plugins are great, but very expensive IMO.
The difference is audible, the UAD is roughly more detailed, but it's not night and day either.Taken in a context of a mix i doubt this subtle difference will make your song a "good" song, and the Waves version a "bad" song.

Anyways @yabiss ' deal is nice.

    Hi Blue, hope you're well.
It's true in a small studio with basic loudspeakers. Most of the time, bedroom producers don't have the opportunity to check out the difference. First, it's rare they have access to UAD plugins in the first place so it becomes harder to check them in a real studio environment. Then comes the " i have pirated software only" syndrome which make you fiercly stick to what you can "afford". And last, there's the "if i can't afford it then it's not so great" syndrome.

So let me be clear about it for everyone reading this. If you produce music in your bedroom with small speakers, only vsti and not real instruments and no sound treatment, you should definitely stay with Waves, obviously the R2R version. Seriously, there's absolutely no way you can take advantage of UAD.
UAD shoud inspire you only if you work in a real pro studio and have been always been stuck with plugins that only work in a confort zone you're not allowed to leave and you mostly deal with live instruments and vocals.
And logically, if you work in pro studio but only with synths, or you only make micro adjustments to live instruments. Again, this is not for you.
I cannot say anything more honest than that.

    Sooooo true.
It's like when you have a pair of 500$ speakers and you think they're top of the art and then you go to an auditorium and you listen to a pair at 5000$ and you think you're dead and on your way to heaven.
It cannot be expressed by words. It has to be experienced by oneself.
