Schmidt Vi & deck: the flagship Schmidt Synthesizer as a plugin for your DAW - May 4, 2026

Superbooth 2026: Schmidt Vi and deck bring the flagship Schmidt analog polyphonic Synthesizer as a plugin to your DAW

There are countless synthesizers. Many of them are no longer available today. To preserve them for posterity, companies clone them or develop emulations. The developers of the Schmidt Synthesizer have now decided to do the latter.

Ahead of Superbooth 2026, Schmidt Synthesizer has announced the Schmidt Vi and deck software products.

    Schmidt Vi
The Schmidt Vi is an upcoming authentic emulation of the flagship Schmidt Synthesizer. It is being developed in collaboration with the plugin developer Ujam. According to Schmidt Synthesizer, they have been working on the emulation for a year already.

The emulation offers a software replica of all the features of the original hardware. Like the original, it will be an 8-part multi-timbral Synthesizer with flexible voice allocation.

It will have four feature-rich analog-modeled oscillators with classic waveforms, PWM, sync, and unique features like multiple forms of PWM and ring modulation.

Then, it has two parallel signal paths, each with two filter sections: a 24dB Moog-style ladder filter and two 12dB multimode filters. Level and panning modulation provide dynamic mixing, crossfading, and stereo panning of both sound variations.

There’s a third VCF for more filtering fun. Also, the modulation offers plenty of options with various LFOs, envelopes, ramp generators, velocity, and more, all routable to oscillators, filters, and more.

The user interface looks somewhat overwhelming and might intimidate some people with its size. The Schmidt VI comes with hundreds of ready-to-use sounds that you can also play in an easier way.

    What’s The Schmidt Deck?
Simultaneously with the announcement of the Schmidt Vi, Schmidt also announced synthesizers for the Schmidt Deck. The preview image might make it look like new hardware, but it isn’t.

It’s actually software that can be considered a player. The deck plugin lets you play sounds created with the Schmidt Vi using simple Minimoog-style controls. For those who find the Schmidt VI interface too large, this offers a more accessible, easier-to-use alternative.

There is no sound demo for the Schmidt Vi yet, but you can listen to the plugin at the Schmidt Synthesizer booth at Superbooth 2026.

    First Impression
This announcement is very surprising. I think very few people expected the Schmidt Synthesizer to be released as a plugin. Let’s see how good the emulation sounds and how well UJAM has done its job.

The question I’m asking myself here is: do we need a Schmidt emulation? I guess there are people who would like to explore the engine as a plugin.

Schmidt Vi and deck will be available in mid 2026 as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin for macOS and Windows. Price TBA.
