It might be a (lack of stable) power issue. Do you have another PSU that's compatible with your laptop to try?

I am still sticking with loss of power @ USB bus device causing the flickering Audio Interface. I also believe it is power related still. Why is the GPU overheating, proximity to the CPU which is also getting too hot? Try another power cord/power strip etc to get that out of the way.

Quick update - I have run out of patience and as I write this I am doing a clean install of Windows and all of my DAWs.

ouch. Did you ever try booting a Linux live distro from a usb pen drive? It's helpful, because what is on the drive does not matter. You can do anything you want and not even have to commit any changes. rules out all windows nonsense . :)

I had that problem and solved it.

    A couple of questions...

    1. What antivirus program are you using?
    2. Totally uninstall your antivirus and see if the problem still persist?

This sounds like an antivirus program doing maintenance on something that's been affected. There is also another option that stops 100% disk usage is the disabling of the "Windows Search" option that may stop this problem also

Bitdefender was causing 100% disk activity, I removed it, problem was solved. Started using Kaspersky Antivirus, no more 100% disk activity.

Sorry I have not replied, work and family has been taking up my time. :guru:

Yes, it has solved the issue.... so far.

I have reinstalled my OS, DAW software and essential apps,
and I am now reinstalling plug-ins and soft synths, a couple at a time,
watching to see if any trigger the issue again.

I am only about a third of the way done as I am having to do it as when I get a chance
but so far, its looking hopeful although I'd like to pin down what caused it.

I just want to thank everyone who commented and made suggestions, it's what I love about this forum.

often this is the simple and most convenient way.

thats why its worth trying to have a very streamlined set of installed programs. and all projects on a separate disk always backed-up. good to hear you are back on track
