Is there a fast way to split stereo samples into two mono samples as a batch? Any software?

I recorded a bunch of samples then spent a day chopping them, but my weird phone records stereo and they're all out of phase...

So I need to split them all into mono without going through the whole process again ideally.

That's not what he's talking about, it's basically a mono merge. But with L/R being out of phase this wouldn't even work.

Not a batch processing in the narrower sense but you can split any stereo file into L/R mono files in Reaper.
You'd need to drag the samples into Reaper (best on a single track), select all and apply Item processing -> Explode multichannel audio or MIDI items to new one channel items.

Cheers... It seems that it can only do one sample at a time...

I just used the free version of Wavepad by NCH. It seems like it can convert stereo to mono using the Batch Converter in the "Tools" menu, but I couldn't find a way to just strip the mono from the left and just print the batch - then the right in a batch.

Cheers. Yeah its kind of possible in Ableton, just isolating the Left channel then freeze and flatten, but it creates just one single file instead of the 300 files or whatever.

I've done mono prints and these are ok, but some of these samples have better sound in one side or the other and once they flatten into a single mono sample they pretty much all lose their impact.

Another solution in Ableton is to just load all the samples into a Drum Rack and isolate the Left or Right input and they play as I want... That might be my best solution if I can't batch convert.

With that operation Reaper is creating two new files, one left, one right for all selected samples (items) separately. So 100 stereo samples would produce 200 mono samples splitted into left and right.

Cheers... Yeah it looks like it might be worth installing a demo to do this. The hack is working as a quick fix so I might just put up with that, or find some downtime later and install Reaper... Cheers.

I gave this a go and it split the audio on the screen, but doesn't seem to automatically create two mono files. I just created a Reaper "Peaks" file. Do I need to print it at this point or something?

Cheers... Yeah it already did them, it put them into the folder Documents > REAPER Media...

For some reason it puts those Reaper files in both locations, so I was just looking in the original folder (Desktop) and assumed it hadn't split them, just referenced or something.

Thanks for the help. They're all done now. Brilliant solution and ultra fast.

Cheers for the link. I just downloaded it but I've found the files in Reaper now thanks to No Avenger and they're all bounced :)

Right, the def path. It is set in the Preferences. In the Item Properties [F2] or right click -> Properties... at the bottom, the whole path for an item is shown.
There's also the Project Media/FX Bay view where you can find the path for every item and even move them to a different location - but I don't want to confuse you with too many details. :winker:
