Anyone who has been on AudioZ for a minute probably has millions of WAV, AIFF and REX files.

How do you guys search for and audition a specific type of sample on a whim? Lets say you wanted a barking dog sound or an obscure type of snare - how would you locate that fast enough to not disrupt your workflow when you have over a TB of samples?!

for a long time I've been looking for a Sample Browser/File Finder for Win 7 like 'Iced Audio's AudioFinder' but that is Mac OSX only.

At the moment I use something called Instant File Find by Popusoft. It caches all your files at the start and actually can find specific files instantly. This is great if an Ableton document comes up with missing samples with exact names... It's not that great for the other important stuff though. Some smart AudioZer must have a great solution!

Let me know what you guys are up to!

I just use the browsers inside of Studio One or Live.. Fast, efficient.

If you always do a collect and save in Ableton instead of just save.. you wont be missing any files.

and.. a TB? Is that all?

    Crazy isnt it. :mates:

Im working with AudioFinder and OSX since Years. It's perfect. AudioFinder is worth every penny.

For the PC I found something like this:

    Revel Breezer
    http://www.revel-software.it

There is a Express Version for 14,90 Euro and a Professional Version for 49,90 Euro.

    Sample Librarian

    only 30 Bucks!

    or

    Sonic Explorer
    http://www.kvraudio.com/product/sonic-explorer-by-proxl

It's Free, but the developer website is down. Maybe you find a working version in the net.

Thanks mate yes, I agree that Live 9 browser is very dope, however... When I search for stuff on my drive it takes Live forever to give me access to the folders containing the files. Often 10-20secs per folder in a hierarchy of four folders to audition one potential sound is not awesome. Gives me a creative limp-on, if you catch my drift...

If I don't use Live 9s browser, I use Everythingto locate files by name instantly, then Xplorer2's preview function.

I have a large amount of samples, but I organized them mainly within genres and/or musical function, so it's easy to find stuff I have in mind.

For drums I restrict my choice to Battery samples or Maschine, where you have a preview also. How many different snares/kicks/hats etc. do you need anyways? There's always EQ and reverb to form the sound.

I found this tonight too http://sonicwire.com/mutant, but you must point folder with samples and then hours of scanning :( which I hate...

    Dalmation,

http://resonic.at/ is great for quick prelisten without entering the DAW! Support many formats, and it's ofcourse free.

    Thank you!

It's a big shame for all those companies who makes this nice plugins and DAW's for such utility outside DAW etc... :)
