We are an online audio loving community that's aimed at helping our members grow as Producers, Audio Engineers and Musicians. Together, we have agreed to create a place where our members can kindly share and drop in audio samples that they would love to share to our other members and help spark some creativty and motivation. We are a very imaginative group with a great sense of humour and we have very high aspirations!

Right now, Sample Dump is a very basic project concieved within the forums of AudioSex, but immediately we have seen this as a great idea and oppurtunity to strengthen our already brilliant community! We hope this Sample Dump grows as much as it can over the years and turn into something fantastic. Our hopes are high, and we hope yours will be too. For now, enjoy this brilliant collection of COMPLETELY FREE to use samples from the kind members at AudioSex ​

RULES:

1. ONLY HIGH QUALITY 24 BIT SAMPLES! NO MP3'S OR ANY OTHER COMPRESSED FORMAT! .wav FILES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

2. DO NOT POST SAMPLES THAT ARE FROM OTHER LIBRARIES OR SAMPLES THAT BELONG TO OTHERS! IF ANY OF THESE ARE FOUND OR DISCOVERED THEY WILL BE REMOVED AND YOU
WILL BE BLOCKED FROM THE DUMP! ORIGINAL SAMPLES THAT YOU MADE ONLY!

3. DO NOT POST YOUR OWN MUSIC AND FULL SONGS FOR ATTENTION! THEY WILL BE REMOVED AND YOU WILL BE BLOCKED FROM THE DUMP! Nice idea but would be cool to upload it on host like Audiour.com so we can preview it without having to download it first.

 

Thanks for the suggestion man . I tried using audiour but that site compresses and converts it to mp3 file. I'm too keen and picky on audio quality to let things like that happen. I'm still actually trying to find a website that uploads audio in full .wav while enabling previewing as well

 

I rather like the idea. Would be interesting to see others

Why don't use Soundcloud? Perhabs somebody could make a dropbox, that would be a lot easier for everyone and much more clearly arranged.

Awesome idea man, a dropbox would be fantastic. I tried staying away from soundcloud because it's so freaking buggy right now that it pisses me off.

But I think the dropbox idea would work really well! And I just realised soundcloud accepts .wav and doesn't apply transcoding to mp3 when downloading the samples, so you still get high quality 24bit wav

I'll see if I can get a dropbox going. But first I must sleep zzzzz

 

i kinda hate dropbox.. I think soundcloud is amazing specially with the option of download and easy to acess + listen.

The new ohm studio online access is kinda amazing

 

hmmm, you know what. I think I'll leave the freedom of uploading to which-ever host you wan't. I've just looked deeper into soundcloud and I don't trust the way they handle audio. They say you can download the tracks in the original file format but I think the quality gets lost over the uploading and resampling...

Best just make sure that the files are in 24bit depth so we get standard audio quality and alot of sample data to process and manipulate

I don't wan't to be too picky and ruley though cuz it's only a thread that you can visit from time to time

 

Why don't you guys just use RestroShare or WASTE both excellent anonymous, secure, and encryped collaboration tools? You can simply share files however YOU want, fuck the restrictions of Soundcloud...resampling is not a word I want to hear applied to audio files I'm using for production. *no*

You can also use Box and you get 10 GB when you sign up, that's plenty of space for anything you'll ever need.

 

Isnt there any service where you can make a dropbox (perhabs for invited users) where we can simply upload all our files to one place?

I mean if people start to uploade everything just where they want to, we will have to deal with crappy hosters, offline links, people who want to make money by ads, perhabs even fake links...

Maybe SAiNT have a good idea where we could do that?

I would have suggested FreeSound, but they are kind of paranoid, and as far as I know it can take a while till a sound is online.
There is also Archive.org, people do there whatever the hell they want, so we could use that site too?

@Catalyst: You have to download a manager? I dont know much about P2P, but it seems a bit complex... And how secure do this have to be? I mean we share self-made samples & loops, no cracked software. Right?

 

Whatever you choose you will have to install some kind of manager, Dropbox also installs stuff on your computer. You can make a collaborative folder utilizing Box or Dropbox. I just offered the others as options, feel free to choose the one that's the most convenient for everyone. Honestly you will have to learn how to use any of them so don't let that be something that is stopping you. Once you learn whatever you are planning on using this now becomes an avenue for future collaborations...and you'll already be used to the software by then and have learned a new skill.

 

One thing for sure is that if everyone is up for it we can develop a really smooth and suitable standard for sharing our samples.

I believe if we can achieve this we can strengthen the intelligibilty of our community and make us an inspiring group that is responsible for a fantastic sound directory.

After work and getting a bunch of things done irl, I'm going to do some intense research in finding and developing a suitable standard that's easy for everyone, with no hassle and with consideration for the uttermost in sample quality

 

I hope you'll find a good hoster.

Look for a hoster /service that dont only focus on audio, I would share Midi files and Synth presets with the community when we find a hoster *yes*

 

oh yeah totally...we'll do more than just audio. Midi will also be essential so we can give people more control over sounds we want to share. That would be a super kind favour onto everybody. And it's always awesome to share synth presets as well

There was once a time in the world of production were greed and secrecy was involved. This breaks those lame barriers

 

Audio, MIDI...it matters not. Any real collaboration service with filesharing will allow you to share whatever kind of files you want. Keep in mind that what you're looking for are really business features and most services charge for this, I believe even Box and Dropbox. You're looking for a central location or directory of stored files and this is the area you're going to hit some snags. The best thing to do is set up an FTP server but that is a pain in the ass and not free and there will be no way to preview. You'd have better luck uploading your sounds to SoundCloud, letting people preview them there and if you want to grab the file you could share it p2p through RetroShare or WASTE.

 

hmmm, good point...gtta look into this some more...

EDIT:

hmmm, I've done some quality tests on soundcloud. I uploaded .wav 24-bit, re-downloaded it and compared the copy between the original. It seems pretty fine to me. They do transcode but when you download the file you get the exact original file with barely any noticeable artifacts.

I believe I should set up a SoundCloud Dropbox where we can all stash in our samples. And maybe we can also provide an easy widget here as well so we can view the samples like we would view normal soundcloud tracks. There is also no limits on minutes when uploading to drop-box.

As for midi-files though, the world of uploading midi on the internet is quite limited right now. Maybe I should make a suggestion to SoundCloud to create a MidiCloud with all the same features but instead, specifically for MIDI *yes*

File Storage systems, whether they are premium or non-premium is a little over-kill right now for what we need. And they contain limitations and complexities that we don't need. Even if we do get a premium file storage system, features like previewing is not gauranteed and when it is, it would most likely have something else that's annoying. So it's pretty lame to waste time on it.

Let's take this slow, we will start off with SoundCloud Dropbox, then, if by any chance we find a better solution that includes more compatibility and enables specialised uploads for Midi, then we can move on to that later on *yes*

However that being said...I could see how this would be a cool future project. Then we could just set up a website and be done with it and integration of an audio widget is a normal thing so it wouldn't be hard to do. Maybe one day it could even grow into an extremely valuable sample resource. If we ask people to donate we might even be able to cover server costs and get paid. And then we'd look back at this conversation and remember how it all started.

 

Excellent idea man, I was also thinking the same. It would be a very great achievement indeed and really something to look back at

And once we have a huge library of samples from all members, we may even release a free volume pack collecting and compiling the best samples out of the pack and crediting each creator. We'll create a HUGE library and release it for free to the whole world under the AudioSex name, maybe even get it on a label or on loopmasters.

It would be very exciting indeed...
